Oedema

Hi

I know that fluid retention can be caused from steroids but I have woken up this morning with very puffy feet and pitting oedema of my lower legs. Is this something I need to mention to Gp/ resp nurse or is it ok to self treat? Am currently laying with legs up!!

Thanks

Sarah

Get in touch with NHS Direct immediately on 0845 4647. Doesn't sound right. I've been on long term Pred treatment for 8 years and had nothing like what you are describing.

I get mild peripheral oedema when I'm on high dose pred, and rather more oedema when I'm on IV hydrocortisone.

What you're describing does sound a little more dramatic than what I have experienced, and if it is a new problem, I would certainly get checked out by your doctor as soon as you can. In the mean time, sitting with your feet elevated is a good plan.
