hate to say it, but the justice system is non existent and they'll get a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again.
The vicarage near me was burgled a while back, several people saw two men leave jumping though the hedge and diving away, number plate and everything, police didn't do a thing, just gave the vicar a crime number to claim on his insurance.
My son moved away, he was a nervous wreak. Before the robbery I would have said nothing would spook him, he was always the strong one, but he was threated several times with a knife in the witness intimidation part of the case in the end he would not go out. Even on New Years eve he was sat in watching a film. He was coping with all this when I was just out of hospital and things were really hard. I am proud of the way he has made a new life for himself but heartbroken he has had to do that 2 1/2 hours away and we can't tell anyone where he lives now we just say ""moved away"" for fear they will find him and hurt him.
Bex,
I feel real sorry for you and your family to hear that, it just makes me so angry that someone can have such a devastating impact on peoples lives and not be held accountable for their actions.
I am sorry Bex, but not surprised. 9 years ago I witnessed an assault on an eldery gentleman who shortly before had been talking too. The two accused were called before the local magistrates court, one turned up, the other didn't. During the short hearing I discovered that the one who had not turned up had 36 previous convictions for petty crime/violent crime, both were found gulity, the one got £100 fine, the one who didn't show his face got 3 months. I asked if they would go and find and arrest him, they answered no, because he was of no fixed abode (though see regualary in the area), they would just wait until he committed his next offence and when caught and arrested he would go down automatically. The gentleman he had assaulted had only been out of hospital a week after suffering a heart attack, things could have been alot worse, but thankfully they weren't. The next time this man could have seriously hurt someone, but it seemed that either the powers that be didn't care or the police didn't have the manpower to do anything.
Last Sunday I witnessed a very drunk lad making his girlfriend's life difficult, he wasn't being aggressive towards her, I was very concerned because he had in his possession a base ball bat. I watched from a distance and after 15 minutes out of concern for the lass for the best thing I could do was dial 999 and request the police to attend. I was asked by the operator for a description, explained because it was 10.30 at night that being dark my details were limited, I was then asked several times again for more details. I explained again that I couldn't provide them, it felt like ""20 Questions"" in the meantime this poor lass might have been hurt. My husband thinks I am nuts for caring about this lass, but I couldn't have lived with myself if I heard the next day a lass had been attacked by her boyfriend, but the emergency operator did little for my confidence because I felt like they wanted me to get nearer to them and possibly put myself at risk.
The justice system needs a complete overhaul, and the police need to have more time on the beat, rather than being chained to their desks with stupid amounts of paperwork.
