Duvets in hospital?!

Very much off topic, but was watching Holby City earlier, and noticed that everybody has duvets on their beds! This isn't just in the private bit, but in all the more general areas such as AAU etc etc. Every hospital I've ever been in has been sheets and scratchy blankets. Have I been missing out?!

your not missing out on anything most hospitals just have sheets and blankets. Think its a tv thing duvets in hospitals it certainly isnt the case in either of my locals or any other facility i have had the misfortune of spending time in!

Adult wards tend not to have duvets, I have been in several hospitals none of which had duvets. Childrens' wards are however different as they provide a more homely envirnment. I have worked of 6 childrens wards and 3 of them had duvets. I wish adult wards did have them they are so much nicer than the sheets.

I'd have loved a duvet when last in. Most times they'd tightly tuck the sheets and blankets in so they didn't even come up to my shoulders when lay down.

Also do they never consider when making the bed to leave room between mattress and top sheet for a person of more than stick insect dimensions?

Wish they'd triangle pillows too instead of the 'piling up three pillows' thing as a back rest. Mine were always falling sideways.

When I worked they introduced duvets into the hospital they were covered in plastic the sqiggy kind was alright if you were 4 foot tall so either covered your feet or your chest or you had to coil up. Didnt last long though was time they did fitted bottom sheets they wernt popular either think was a 1 month wonder. this was approx 1993

my local has duvets !!!

Oooh, I would have loved to have had a duvet - I remember being freezing last time I was in and I asked for extra blankets and was given really heavy ones - they were warm, but it was a good thing I wasn't in for my asthma as they were so heavy they felt like they were crushing my chest!

The only place I have known to have duvets was on a cancer ward my mum was on several years ago - the rest of the hospital had sheets and blankets but some charity/friends fund had been set up to make this ward more pleasant for the women on it and one of the things they decided on was 'proper', comfortable bedding.

Duvets would be good but they must be properly covered in a dust proof, dirts proof cover because they could become very manky in bad situations! e.g. bodily fluids! And they need special cleaning. Blankets & sheets can go in the 60 degree plus hot wash no problems.

I am sure there are some good duvet protectors out there that are waterproof but breathable and don't russle like you are sleeping under a crisp packet!

I have a dustmite one which is a bit stiff, it needs another couple of washes to soften it up a bit!

I take my V pillow in with me though it is looking decicively flat now but only a few months old.... was a Debs one too! Must find a firmer one!
