Yes you can I have often done this, the only problem is some children wake up distressed others don't. Its a great way to give it when they are asleep as when children cry / scream when given their inhalers their airways close therefore very little of the drug gets to the lungs unfortunatly.

Hi,

I am not medically trained, just a mum, but yes I do often give inhaler when asleep. When we have had overnight stays in hospital the nurses have also given it when they have been asleep so I am sure it is ok. Just make sure he/she is is taking it well, you can listen for the clicking sound in the big style inhaler or look for the little yellow/orange circle of rubber moving in other type which will assure you it is getting to him/her. I find it best if they are in a deep sleep and they take it without moving, but sometimes they do fight it!

thanx, did it while asleep and did seem to go ok.
