allergic to cats
my son is 8 and got a reaction on xmas eve, it went on for weeks and weeks.then it calmed down, but still he had bad symptoms of general asthma which is uncontrolable at the moment, he takes seritide 125 x 2 x2 a day, singular 5mg atrovent salamol prednisolone antihystamine flixonase then today it happened again after ten minutes in a house that has a cat
It varies from person to person. I'm very allergic to cats. If I go into a house with cats my chest tightens, face tingles and is itchy and I get wheezy. Symptoms last about an hour after I've left the house. I take antihistamine every day.
Not much you can do except avoid cats.
thank you for replying, my son takes antihistamines 4 times a day, this sudden onset of allergy is even afffecting him at school when he sits next to people that have cats?im at my wits end
Which antihistamine does he take? It might be he needs to try another brand - my son is on Piriton at night and NeoClarityn in morning. After trying different ones, we have found Piriton the most effective. He doesnt get the side effect of tiredness. I take Loratadine, Piriton knocks me out.
Has your son been seen by at an allergy clinic? He should be, especially if his allergy to cats is so severe. Also, I would tell the school staff about his allergy and ask if they could avoid seating him near children who have cats! A bit of a tall order I know, but if you explain how seriously the allergy is affecting your son, they should at least try to help. By the way, how old is your son?
