babies and asthma
Hi my son was taking becotide, atrovent, ventolin from 3 mths old after a vicious bout of rsv bronchiolitus. I can't remember what age exactly we picked up the asthma label but it was before he was 18mths. Unfortunatly he is now a fully fledged member of the brittle/difficult asthma brigade so it was a correct diagnosis. Sometimes babies can just have viral induced wheeze but dont go on to be asthmatic hence docs dont like making definate diagnosis too young. You know your son better than anyone else so if you are concerned then go back to your gp for further advice.
Hope your son is better soon
julie
thanks for your reply julie we will have to keep our eye on him over the next few months and keep our fingers crossed
Both of my children had bouts of wheezing under 6 months old but i was told both times couldn't diagnose them as asthmatic until 2 years old. Daughter had constant night cough and always sounded bubbly and she was finally diagnosed asthmatic at 2 years. Son was nebulised at 5 months old when he had a bad chest infection but in fact developed chronic tonsilitis and not asthma.
hi my son was 2wks old when he started whezzing.you just have to keep going back to the gp.by 6mths he was to 2 inhalers.now he is two and on alot more.at the end of the day you are his mum you know when something is not right.
