I have had a swollen thumb for over a year now. The base of my thumb almost to my Palm is twice the size of my other thumb and hurts when press on it or sometimes just throbs. I've had xrays done but they say that they can't see it. Unfortunately I can not afford an mri. Was wondering if anyone has experienced this. There was no hand injury.

I have not experienced this but it sounds as if you could have some sort of infection in your thumb when you say that it throbs. Have you been bitten or done something that could have given you a splinter at any time? Perhaps some antibiotic would help?
Hi, I'm sorry you are hurting. My left thumb hurts similar to what you described although mine hurts with different motions, hurts to touch at the base near the wrist. It too is about twice the size of the right. Ice feels good and it hurts mostly in the evening.
