Hi Mama198,

I have no experience of taking propanolol, only been on the benzodiazepines for anxiety. I hope that it goes well for you. Anxiety can be so crippling sometimes, I am glad you spoke to your doctor and they have taken action. Take good care, it will get better.

Hi Mama198,

I know what you mean, I am also very reluctant sometimes, specially if it involves any weaning to come off the meds. It is a hassle.

I think I mentioned I am doing CBT and currently I am trying some relaxation techniques. To be honest I am not very good at finding the time yet to practice them as much as I should, but I aspire to. Deep Muscle Relaxation is one, and there are some guided videos for it in you tube. I try it when I wake up in the middle of the night, helps me get back to sleep. Controlled Breathing is easier to do on the go and I use it whenever I start feeling like my pulse is going up, my stomach has a pit in it or I am grinding my teeth.

Take good care Mama, hope things are better very soon, and that your little one continues to grow and surprise you in so many great ways.

Hi mama198,

I have suffered a lot of anxiety in the past year and was prescribed propanalol to use when required.

It helped when I returned to work afted a period off sick. I would take it half hour before I arrived at work. It prevented me having panic attacks.

I did make me feel dizzy at first until I got used to it. Without it though I would have undoubtedly had panic attacks and ended up back on the sick. I didn't have to take it for too many weeks once my anxiety had lessened.

Hope they are helpful for you.

Take care

Hi there, I was prescribed propranolol years ago for performance anxiety. When I would have high anxiety my heart rate would spike and I would get shaky. It definitely helped mask those symptoms and then when I didn’t feel them physically, I was able to control my anxiety better. I always stayed on a low dose so never really noticed any side effects. Now it’s something I only take as needed but still seems to do the trick!
