has anyone heard of BioTE? It is a bioidentical hormone replacement pellet that is supposed to help with osteoporosis and other health issues. Has anyone tried it? What are your thoughts or did it work for you? Unfortunately it is not covered under insurance. They insert the pellets in your hip/back area every three months but do bloodwork first to see what your hormone levels are and then calculate the amount that should be used. Your blood is checked about 6 weeks after the pellets are inserted and then adjustments are made if necessary and your are asked how your are doing since receiving them.

i have one more doctor to see tomorrow but so far this option sounds better to me. Wait and see what the next doctor says.

The criticism I've read is BioTE adds high levels of hormones to mimic a young persons hormone levels which can be dangerous for an older woman. Dr. Lani who wrote a book on Osteoporosis, spoke about the subject on You Tube. When I first heard about BioTe I was until I saw/read the downsides and decided to forgo it. Good luck with your research. And please post if you find contrary information.

Thank you, I will have to look at Dr Lani’s book that I have to see if there is any mention of BioTE but the dr that suggested it stated she would start low and increase if necessary. The scores on the bone scans use 30year old scores as a guide line, according to the dr I saw at mayo clinic. At 30 we are at our peak in bone health.

I'd be inclined to trust a doctor affiliated with the Mayo. From my experience, the health care providers there seem to be educated with the most up-to-date information. If you google Lani Simpson you may be able to find her comments on Bio-TE. Good luck, I'll be making the same decision in regards to this soon so keep me posted on what the Mayo doctor suggests. ps. I'm 66 years old and my scan shows -2.8 femoral.

It’s too bad the providers won’t accept insurance for these pellets, I was seriously considering do the pellets but since the insurance company doesn’t pay much, they refuse to bill them and won’t even give me a detailed receipt so I can claim it, although I wouldn’t get much back at all anyway. If they would lower the cost they might get more people to use it. I’ve decided not to take any medication for my osteoporosis. I will pray for my bones to get better and do weight bearing exercises to help improve my bones. I doubt I will ever get a dexa scan again either, what’s the point, when I know I will never take big pharma drugs, its bad enough that the synthroid I take is a contributing factor in the bad bone scan.
