Welcome to the community. An MRI can provide useful information about the brain , but it is *not* diagnostic by itself. MRI scans are usually used to image the structure of the brain. You can read more about different types of brain tests here: mybraintest.org/early-diagn...
My husband had CT brain scan to check dementia, result showed he had shrinkage in frontal lobe and a bit in temporal lobes .. This led to a diagnosis of Alzheimer's, but I understand that even now with more sophisticated scans etc. absolute diagnosis can only be done post mortem. Also saw a programme where people had donated brain to medical research some of those whose brains indicated dementia had not shown any of the symptoms
