I felt like I had an old person's diagnosis too when I was first diagnosed at age 50. AF is more common in older people, but I know people who have had it in their 20's. It really is the most common heart rhythm disorder. Does your AF come and go or are you in permanent AF? Sometimes when I am having an episode it feels hard to catch my breath if I am going up and down stairs or doing physical activity.

I don't know when I first got it as I am nearly totally asymptomatic - but I first noticed something odd using a heart rate monitor when I was about 41 (but was diagnosed only 18 months ago when I was 51). One of the British Olympic rowing team has AF - so it can strike even the young and fit.

Was diagnosed when at the golden age of 65. Had a most unusual feeling for a few days, definately new it was not a virus, but things were not right with me. So phoned GP saying I truly wondered whether it was heart! So off I went to practice, had an ECG - there and then confirmed I was in AF.

Mine was diagnosed at age 40 but I had been having symptoms fron age 37 only to find a hole in my heart so the af is a after effect of the surgery

I was 33 when diagnosed with AFIB, Flutter and AVNRT. Not true that only older people get it. It becomes more common as you get older. Probably due to other health issues like heart valve disease, diabetes, high blood pressure etc. I know some people don't experience any symptoms and so as they get older they have that first stroke that doctors can link back to them having AFIB. Just some info I've learned and heard over my time of having it. When I have an episode I have a difficult time taking a deep breath. I don't feel like I can't breath but I get winded, my chest can hurt, headache, nausea, dizziness, I feel weak and I have a feeling in my chest like a drum roll or like I've got a hummingbird in my chest. I also have problems with recalling some things but only briefly. Very fast and short beats. Hope you feel better. Try not to be too anxious or stressed about it. I know that can be hard but it can cause more episodes or at least it can for me. Are you going to have an ablation? Are you on a blood thinner?

Hi,thanks for all your replys It's hard not to be anxious sometimes glad I'm not the only one around my age with AF! I'm now on Bisoprolo 5mg,Lisinopril 2.5mg and Aspirin, and yesterday drs now giving me Lansoprazole to see if it gets rid of the blotedness and trapped wind drs say it could be the Aspirin upsetting my stomach ? Hopefully it will work.
