Does anyone have any experience with arthritis or other type of severe inflammation and AFib?
I have a feeling that my severe end stage arthritis and associated pain was a major factor in me having Afib. Prior to surgery, the doctors had me on 200mg of Celebrex 2x per day for pain as well. I have found literature suggesting that the inflammation from the severe end stage arthritis could be a major trigger for Afib. Celebrex has also been linked to AFib from what I read online.
I recently had a full hip arthroplasty to take care of the end stage arthritis and I am left pondering if I should wait to see if Afib comes back before scheduling a catheter ablation. Prior to surgery, I had an electrical Cardioversion and was taking Amiodarone to keep me in NSR for the surgery. I kept taking Amiodarone for 2 weeks post surgery, but stopped the Amiodarone as of today (surgery was two weeks ago). The reason I stopped is that I am scared of what Amiodarone might do to my body even though doctor says it won't have any long term effects for the short time I will be on it.
I was also started on Eliquis 30 days prior to Cardioversion and am continuing my Eliquis in case I end up needing the catheter ablation in the near future. From all of my research, I am left with the conclusion that nobody really knows exactly what causes AFib for a particular individual or why some people come out of it and others don't. Or why catheter ablation works on some people and others go back into AFib post catheter ablation.
I will gladly leverage science and medicine as it is needed, but would prefer to try living without meds or invasive types of medical interventions unless absolutely necessary. I also like to learn from others and hear about their experiences and how they might relate to my situation.
Thoughts, recommendations and opinions are all welcome as I struggle with the right decision for me.
