I had mine repaired with a gastric bypass added - just stopping being sick stopped me triggering AF. So yes, improvement.

Just what I thought.

Hi, my understanding is that hiatal hernia’s very often irritate the vagus nerve which in turn triggers Afib. Once hernias are repaired, there are reports that Afib is immediately improved or stops entirely. I’d also be interested to hear from other members who may have experienced this.

I’ve been telling the doctors to repair it for months.

Not sure if my circumstances directly relate but if not done already I would see if your hiatus hernia extent can be fully investigated.I had many years of increasing symptoms. The extent of the problem was revealed by chest & lung CT scan.if you want the gory details look at my previous posts.By this time I was in NSR after successful ablation. As I had a particularly large hernia I found that after the op both my breathing & heart rate were improved.

When I was persistent lifting and bending and bad reflux certainly made my Afib worse as well .

However I don't think the op should be taken lightly.

As I said do try & get the extent of the hernia checked out.

My hiatus hernia was discovered some time after the paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and I think I read that the Omeprazole that I was prescribed was not a good idea for those of us with AF. I did an exercise every morning that was supposed to push things back into place but I’m not up to doing that any more with the chronic fatigue I acquire with the PAF after a virus, which has worsened.

Interesting, why was Omeprazole considered not to be a good idea for AF sufferers?

I can’t remember now but it was in a book that was recommended by someone here. As it was written by two American EPs it assumed that everyone was overweight which I have never been and it urged walking far more daily than I could manage with my chronic fatigue. I can’t remember the reason they advised against things like Omeprazole but they did make some sense and I preferred doing the exercise at the time though may return to it if ever I have nasty symptoms from the hiatus hernia again.

First thing on waking drink a glass of water and then stretch arms out sideways, then hands on chest. Then go on tiptoe and then sharply back a certain number of times-can’t quite remember how many, but as my fatigue has worsened I have given it up and don’t seem to have much of a problem with it anymore.

operating to repair a hiatus hernia is considered a major surgery in the older age group and the medics will try most things to avoid doing it. So I was told by my entrologist.
