Can PAF be activated with rapid weight loss. Due to illness I lost 8 stone in 3 months and developed PAF. I was in the obese range. I was having episodes every couple of weeks . I was put on Sotalol 40 mg x2 a day. I have managed to put 2 stone in weight back on and not had an episode in 18 weeks. Also had 24hr tape test and it was clear, but with PAF i guess it’s hit and miss ,if it is the day you have an episode. In reality I know it’s probably the medicine doing it job and I have not stop these episodes. It just waiting to strike again.

AFID with Rapid Weight loss
It's more likely your illness triggered the afib, than the weight loss. And more likely a combination of feeling better and the Soltalol is why you're having fewer episodes.
If you're in the obese category, losing weight is probably the single most important thing you can do to reduce your afib burden. I would think twice about intentionally gaining weight because you think it will help your afib. It will probably do the opposite.

Hi
More so is the inflammation caused by your illness.
Not the weight loss.

weight loss is importantly with afib. Be happy that you’ve lost so much snd please don’t try to gain it again otherwise you’ll be back in the obese range
All the best
I’m guessing the illness is more the cause than the weight loss . 24 hour tape tests are useless if you are having an episode every two weeks. I’d suggest buying an Apple Watch - they are brilliant at detecting it and there’s a setting whereby as well as you doing an instant ECG to see if you are in AF, you can also have it monitoring you in the background and then giving you a weekly report on what percentage of time you were in AF. 18 weeks is a great outcome so far
