I'm having a small growth removed from my nose, outside not inside. As there's a very small chance it could be cancerous I'm lucky to have it removed within 2 weeks. Happening Monday. I did ask the doctor at dermatology whether I should stop Apixaban in the morning. She said probably not but the Maxillofacial would let me know. They didn't and I forgot to ask. The only phone number I have is for contacting them if I'm unable to keep the appointment due to unforseen circumstances. So I'm asking my community folks for opinions. I'm now on 2.5mg as I'm over 80 and weigh 51 kg. Three years ago I had a colonscopy and told to stop my then 5mg 24 hours before. I know that's far more invasive than the nose op.

Stopping Apixaban before mini op
I had the same situation March this year with Rivaroxaban. Surgery was cancelled at last moment because I should have stopped the blood thinner 3 days before.
Surgery done a few weeks later.
I had a BCC removed some years ago and never stopped warfarin. That said why don't you just not take Sunday's. Very little risk either way.
They may be able to help you with the phone number you have. The receptionists are pretty good at sorting things out.
Thank you. I will try that. Didn't want to be a nuisance. Oh dear how many times have I heard that phrase and vowed not to use it?!!!
I had to ask the same question when l had a gastric endoscopy. The receptionist was quite knowledgeable. I didn’t have to stop my anticoagulant, but l am taking Warfarin.
You are 80 years old, you don't want your operation cancelled!? Call them and don't delay please 👌 if they have to cancel your operation because of your medication here, then that will be a bother for you, Camelia! Just call them please 👍🙏❤️
Can you not call the clinic or hospital and ask to be put through to the Maxillofacial department and ask? I would not take any on Sunday if you can't get an answer from them.
Thanks Desanthony. I phoned about 3pm and left a message. Not heard anything yet..I should have phoned sooner. I had some heavy nosebleeds when I was was on 5mg Apixaban. Since I've been on the 2.5mg I've had no nosebleeds. I'm aware it could be a coincidence.
I usually find it is pointless leaving messages so worth trying to contact them in person and speak to someone - it's getting close now so like I said I would leave off Sunday's doses and hope that that is enough. I once went for a colonoscopy and thought in the telephone pre procedure chat with the nurse she had said don't take apixaban the night before so I took my morning dose - of course she had said don't take the morning or evening dose the day before. I am hard of hearing and it was on an old mobile phone with bad reception. Since then if anyone has suggested a telephone consultation I have refused and asked for face to face or an e mailed form and letter that I can fill in so that I can understand what is being said or written. My wife also comes with me to hopefully avoid confusion - it doesn't seem to matter whether I tell them I am hard of hearing they still tend to start really well and then start mumbling or fiddling with something on the desk or put their hands in front of their mouths or look away from me - No chance of hearing exactly what they are saying and just missing a few words, as in that instance can make a difference to the whole understanding.
I recently had a small procedure for stress incontinence- an injection into wall of urethra. I asked beforehand if I should stop my anticoagulant- Apixiban - and was told that I should take it as normal.Last year I had a steroid injection into wrist and also didn't need to stop anti-coagulant.
Obviously some procedures are more risky for bleeding but your medical history should be known by team.
I've recently had a medical pain block, several injections into the spinal canal sciatica nerve, I was told to stop talking Apixaban two days before and two days after, apparently recommended if there's any chance of bleeding.
I recently had Mohs surgery on my nose. I'm on Rivaroxaban which wasn't stopped and neither did I have a bleeding problem.
You could try ringing 111 for advice
I recently had a small BCC removed I just didn’t take the morning one, I took the evening one and all okay.
ask a pharmacist. !
Hi
Is the 'item' a growth rather than a carcinoma/skin thingy under skin?
I not the latter removed before I had the stroke and given anti-coagulant. I needed a skin graft too. Specialist took it from under the ear where he said no hair!
It bled at evening and I had been told to use pressure. It stopped.
I would delay if taking twice a day otherwise leave that day. It would take all of a week to rid it from your system completely.
Ask DR or ring HOSPITAL. Are you having it removed in HOSPITAL?

I’ve just had radiotherapy on the tip of my nose for BCC. It is taking a while to heal which I think is due to Apixaban. Can you ring an out if hours GP and ask if you should stop taking for a couple of day or maybe 111 would get you advice
Hi
Nope wouldn't be Apixaban.
Boost up your Vit A and Vit C. Drink plenty of fluids.
Do you have any antibiotic Ointment?
May be you have an infection in it.
Any seepage?
Does it give you pain?
Not nice and I can imagine why you are concerned.

If no reply from hospital, perhaps ask your GP /Doctor to query and chase it up, you are not being a nuisance at all, that is what they're there and paid for. Good luck.
just stop it the morning of the operation or even the night before. I had to stop my apixaban for 3 weeks and touch wood still here
Hope op goes well and all benign
I had surgery a week ago for a suspicious skin thing on my elbow and lip. Dermatologist said no problem, don’t stop Apixiban ( my GP agreed) All was fine hardly any bleeding!! Good luck
I had a kidney removed last year I had to stop taking blood thinners for 1 week before my operation.
I was told to stop anticoagulant the day before I had a biopsy on by leg. I would ring up and make sure.
I've had three lesions removed from my scalp and, although needing skin grafts for two of them, I was told it was unnecessary to stop Apixaban
