Sotalol

Has anyone changed their dose instructions ? I was originally prescribed Sotalol 40mg in morning and 40mg in evening. It's making me feel like a tired, worn out old zombie from the land of the living dead, on the other hand BP and HR are brilliant.

Am planning to speak to my Surgery Pharmacist about taking 80mg at night and nothing in morning. Is anyone else doing this ....... any side effects ?

Many thanks.

John

Hi Benhall1,

Sotalol has a 12 hour effectiveness, (there will be a better description) therefore it’s to be taken twice a day.

i was on 3 x 40 mg, which was reduced to twice a day, but I don’t have any problems with lethargy. My heart rate was too low.

I changed, as it was making me very tired, by halving my tablets. I take 20mg mid morning, late afternoon and at 9pm in the evening. So I've effectively reduced the daily dose to 60mg a day. I'm a 5' female and found the 2 x 40mg too much. One size doesn't fit all in my opinion.

Hi, My first day on health unlocked and I searched for Sotalol. Glad I've read about people taking various doses. I too have chosen to reduce my dose a little due to thinking it causes some tiredness. I am taking 40mg in the morning and half a tablet (20mg) at 10pm. . Also I thought I would take a smaller dose in the evening because if it's effect is to slow the heart rate as well as make it more regular, then I didn't want my heart rate to be too slow in the early morning hours because my 48 hour ECG showed a slow heart rate around 6am in the mornings.

Hi,

I did drop the day time dose altogether and just take the 80mg at night only. Certainly made me less of a Zombie during day and it works well at night and really has made no difference to my BP and HR readings. I have a review with my prescribing Cardiac Consultant at the end of September and will seek his guidance re change of doses. It certainly works better than Bisoprolol and Nebivolol.

Hi, I was prescribed Sotalol 80mg twice a day and that made me very tired with a very slow pulse rate. The cardiologist then adjusted the dose to 40mg in the morning and 80mg at night.

This made quite a bit of difference so I’m sure you’ll be fine when you get the correct dosage. Take care

In 2017, I Switched from Bisoproplol to Sotalol 80 mg 2x/day and started feeling much better. By 2020 I was feeling worse, with difficulty walking up slopes, feeling out of breathe. Then (in 2020) I went to 40 mg 2x/day and after a couple of months felt much better again, stronger. By 2023, I started feeling poorly again and stopped Sotalol, and back to Bisopropolol at 2.5 mg 1x/day. This is where I'm at now. Feeling very good lately.
