Warfarin.

I am taking warfarin. Usually, I take it at about 6 pm. Accidentally took it at about 9 am this morning. Last night because I nearly forgot to take it, it was 11 pm when I took it. I hope it won't do any harm taking it much earlier. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm sure people have. I normally take mine between 8pm and 10 pm. It should all even out in coming days.

Relax. Warfain is not particular when you take it and very forgiving. Your INR will balance out quite quickly. Personally I take ALL my meds before my evening meal then I never forget. Going out with family soon to a local restaurant so will take them before I leave.

On balance it will make no difference - you'll be protected. Take your next dose at your normal time. All will be well. It will balance out. If you self test with your own Coaguchek device you could leave it a day or so and do an INR test to allay any fears you may have.

You should have a contact number for your warfarin clinic, they can put your mind at ease.I set my phone reminder for 18.00 daily so I don't forget 😀

That's why I chose PRADAXA 110mg x twice daily. I'm now 75.

If I forget same time I will take it at remembering.

To me its not drastic if this happens.

I have had 3 operations (not heart) since stroke. Its easy no PRADAXA for 3 24hr days operation the next day and start again 2 days later. Never had problems.

At night I line up 2 and use 1 for 10pm. The other for 10am.

You’ll be fine. I completely forgot a dose which is most unusual for me. A very rare occurrence. The anticoagulant clinic reassured me that all would be fine. Just take normal dose at the next correct time. It would all balance out. I self check and they were completely right. It dipped to 2, but quickly got back to the mid 2 where I like it.

Interestingly, I saw a study that some doctors had done in Australia to see if it mattered what time of day you took warfarin. I was fed up taking that at 6 and my other tablets at around 7.30pm. I wanted to take them at the same time. I emailed the doctor who was involved to find the outcome and it turns out from their research that it doesn’t matter when you take it. As long as you are consistent.

Obviously I’m not telling anyone to alter what they are doing with warfarin without checking with their anticoagulant clinic. But for me it means I take one lot of meds in the morning and another at night. No more taking tablets at different times. It’s so much easier
