Amiadarone
Photo sensitivity is a well known affect of amiodarone . You really should avoid sunshine and make like a vampire!
This is one of the well known side effects of amiodorone so you must wear a total sun block when out in the sun. I was on amiodorone for a few weeks before and after my 2nd successful cardioversion but didn't get this just had a light raised thyroid level at the end of the course which went back down to normal within 6 weeks of finishing the course of amiodorone. You should get regular blood checks when you are on amiodorone at the time I had them every month. Though it may be that if on the medication long term you would have the blood tests at different intervals.
I became very sun sensitive on amiodarone, I would feel burnt after a few minutes exposure. I didn't experience swelling but kept well away from bright sunlight even with sun block.
Thiis is one of the side effects listed in the notes that come in the box. Probably best to familiarise yourself with them to be on the safe side.I had photo sensitivity the first time I was taking Amiodarone but haven't on this current stint.
I was ok with Sun block first time around.
Yep! Always wear factor 5 and make sure it has the 5* UV rating too. Aldi do a good, cheap one. Or sit in the shade or cover the skin. Amiodarone increases sun sensitivity.
I was nearly given this but my ablation came before I was. I would report this to your doctor and be sure to be checked as often as need be for any other of its potential side effects on this, that and the other.
You’ll gain comfort reading a good online study of it. If you search for “low dose amiodarone side effects” it’s the first in the list that comes up and suggests the drug to be very effective and safe if used carefully.
