Good Morning hope you are all enjoying some rest.I am 52 years old and have been dealing with SVT for about 1 year and things have improved but not cured, I have been referred to Glenfield for a possible Ablation. Diet, Caffeine, Alcohol & Exercise all addressed.
Recently my Meds have been changed from x 1 Sotalol 40mg twice a day, plus X 1 Flecainide 50mg twice a day along with X 1 Apixaban 5mg twice a day.My heart beat was getting to low so the hospital removed the Sotalol and replaced it with Bisoprolol 2.5mg once a day only. I havenot started this yet. Just looking for thoughts on the combination and possible side effects and what to possibly expect. Kind Regards Andrew

I take Bisoprolol 2.5mg at night to control BP. It along with having Metoprolol first DID NOT control my H/Rate. 185 avg withut exertion and breathless, some pauses at night. Changed to Bisoprolol and resolved my pauses at night but @ 156 did not control H/Rate.
Then enter CCB Diltiazem 120mg did 60s H/Rate Day.
Whatever meds my H/Rate doesn't change from 47avge Night.
As far as I am aware bisoprolol is prescribed alongside flecainide (this was the combination I was given when first diagnosed). It wasn't successful for me so the consultant at Glenfield swapped me to Sotalol. I can't understand why you were prescribed two anti arrythmics together (flecainide and Sotalol) then again I am not a doctor, I am sure they have their reasons. BobD will be better informed.
Which consultant are you under at Glenfield? This is where I had my ablation last Tuesday. I waited 16 months in total.
Hi Andrew, I understand that the waiting list is so long because Glenfield is one of the best heart hospitals in the Country with some of the finest consultants so you are in good hands. They were super efficient. The pre op assessment the week before was on time, quick and thorough with time given to discuss the procedure again with a specialist team of arrythmia nurses.
I am only a week post ablation but appears to be doing well. In fact I can't sleep because I'm not doing much and not tired, although I have noticed nightmares, possibly from the drugs which probably are still in my system.
I was walking the day after I came out of hospital (only short walks), and I can honestly say I had more energy and the aches and pains I have suffered in my body over the last couple of years have all but gone! Long may it stay 😊
I was treated well in Glenfield so you should have no worries there and I know they pioneer a lot of new treatments and technology, that's how I found my consultant, Professor André Ng in the Sunday Times.
The two who I have heard a lot about are the Prof and Dr Sandilands who work closely together, definitely worth asking about either of these two.
I went for a private consultation with Prof Ng in the first instance that's how I got on his waiting list under the NHS. He also performed my ablation.
