Constant afib

I am becoming tired of suffering from afib every ten days. My medication is Bisoporol 5mg, Warfarin and Dronedarone 500mg twice daily. I had an ablation two years ago which didn't work. I'm going for an echocardiagram and a a halter early April to ascertain if heart has changed. Has anyone any positive feedback to help me cope with afib sessions. I go to bed and end up exhausted for 2 days. I can't plan anything, go on holiday or even a hair appointmentMy cardiologist told me not to worry when in af. I don't have pain or breathlessness.

When in af heart rate is 142bpm. To hear from someone who suffers similar would be great.cheers

Hi - so sorry you suffer this, perhaps seek a second opinion? I certainly got to similar stage 6 years ago. I’d had drug therapy then 2 ablations which helped, for a while.

My EP gave me last resort options - Amiodarone or Pace & Ablate. I chose Pace & Ablate. I had the Pacemaker implanted (RST - Resyncronisation Therapy - 3 lead Pacemaker). From the moment it was implanted my AF disappeared. I cancelled the ablation of the AV node.

I still have occasional episodes but my PM says I have less than 2% a year AF burden. I feel SO much better.

Another possible option could be hybrid mini maze? Several members have done really well after this.

Hi Chistobel.

Yes I have a had HR about your level (higher in fact). I wonder if this is a result of your mentai attuide towards afib? Try beathing tech's - they can your lower your HR very quickly. Have a Google and find the best one for you.

PS Chrisobel. First of I am not a doctor and hold no medical quaifiacations at all. Ask me about the Law and I'll right stuck in. Yes I did study at Masters and walked my LLB. Bis at 5 mg is a fairly high dose which can make you feel tired. I suggest talking to your doctor about this and maybe reducing the dose.

I took magnesium citrate for two years and I didn't have one afib event, it also cleared up my lifetime insomnia and constipation.

I took Solgar magnesium citrate 2 tabs = 420mg first thing am. For 2 years they were miraculous, but then I felt I no longer needed magnesium when I had a bout of AF and I was sleeping well. My sister tried it for insomnia but she had a heart disturbance so not for everyone. Now I get 2 or 3 bouts a year, usually due to stress or red wine, if they get more frequent and my sleep gets poor again I'll take mag again. Best of luck! I hope it works for you.

is there a chance you can have a second ablation?

What is your resting heart rate like? If it's not too low, will your GP not approve your taking an extra 2.5mg of bisoprolol, say, to help reduce the rate? When I couldn't get my rte down, back in 2019, I ws eventually given digoxin, which worked well. You might ask about that?

My own AF (120-150bpm often for several hours) is becoming more frequent, this year, but the symptoms are (fingers crossed) such that I can cope with them. My daily ectopic beats and palpitations wear me down more than the occasional AF.

I am seeing a cardiologist on Tuesday to see why mine has worsened and what to do about it. I also have a wide QRS caused by a left bundle branch block, so I guess that will be the cause.

Funny (not funny) that you mention every 10 days because that's the schedule I've been on for about the past year too, though my HR doesn't go quite a high as yours (130ish, but briefly). My PiP Flecainide is very successful at stopping my episodes fairly quickly but I feel horrible for the rest of the day - as in, I need to lie down horrible - and often into the next day too, so I totally relate and feel for you.

It's really unfortunate that these medications can bring with them so many side effects that can have a negative impact on quality of life. In my case, the Flecainide definitely comes with an array of side effects. I'm trying a very small daily dose at the moment as, like you, I'm fed up with the disruptive impact of AFib + meds, but even a small daily dose of Flec is not agreeing with my body at all.

So I can't offer too many cheering words, I'm afraid, except perhaps you need your meds reviewed? It's possible that a change of meds might help reduce your episodes and/or reduce or eliminate side effects.

‘Don’t worry’?😳 This is a man who has no idea how AF feels especially at a high rate. I have found that I feel very ill at the beginning of an episode but if it goes on for more than a day my rate lowers and I get used to it, sort of. To answer your question, No, thank goodness, but if I was in your position I wouldn’t put up with it. It’s true worry makes it worse and going to bed and giving it your full attention isn’t good but every ten days?

You’ve had excellent advice on ways forward so I’ll only add my best wishes ❤️‍🩹

Hi, Christobel, im on bisoprolol 1.25 plus dronederone but no anticoagulant as chads score 0 , you have basically described how i also feel, every 7-10 days also, i cant plan very much either, the meds help in lessining the impact of af for me but by no means a cure, the positive thing i can add is , when i am good i am good, and carry on and keep this attitude .

Hi Tom redYes agree when good am good! I don't think dronedarone helping much. Bisoporol does help. Once in af am told to use rescue dose of 5mg bisop and if afib continues another 5mg. Want to know why I get afib not really had an explanation.

Hope everyone reading this so I can say thank you all for your help and support.

Ps as suggested didn't lie down in latest bout tried to keep going!!

Cheers all

I find that magnesium taurate works best for me. I'm not medically trained but did lots of research and it does seem to be an accepted supplement for heart issues. Definitely brings heart rate down and helps with sleep. I don't take it every day as my resting HR is quite low.
