Cardioversion fail.

cardioversion on Saturday. AFib back on Wednesday. May try another with medication before and after. Had been told persistent AFib CV has a 60% failure in first 2 weeks so not unduly surprised. Still very disappointed after all the wait.

Ok so the very good news is that it did work. This now signposts that you can attain NSR and than ablation may be an option. Cardioversions are not a cure for anthing but a guide to future treatment options.

Any further CVs after that?

No , They're going to give him digoxin for rate control and possibly another mes for his function . We will hopefully be seeing the consultant soon to discuss further treatment whether that be meds or another ablation .

Commiserations but at least it proved you can convert, which means there may be other treatment options.

Thanks for that. I didn’t fully realise the significance

Maybe time to ask for an ablation. If the medication they are suggesting is Amiodorone, do plenty of research before agreeing.

Thanks. Yes it is. Suggestion was 2 weeks on Amiodrone. Cardioversion then further 2 weeks on Amiodrone.

I had a cardioversion about this time last year. I had been in continous AF since the previous December. I needed three shocks, and NSR lasted less than 24 hours. I was told there was little point in trying again, and was immediately referred to an EP to discuss possible ablation. I'm now 3 months post ablation, and am in NSR! Long may it last!

Thanks. Guess this could be on my radar as well now.

Good luck! No need to worry about the prospect of an ablation. It sounds daunting, but it's a standard procedure for those who carry it out. I opted for a general anaesthetic as I was given the choice.

I know the feeling I was thee same I had 2 cardioversions and 2 ablations still went back out of rhythm! It then wouldn’t even go back with a cardoversion so had an internal cardiovesion which luckily worked and I am on medication to keep it in… so far so good 3 years in rhythm. I really coul not function with it out of rhythm the symptoms were awful. Hope you get sorted soon xx
