Had appointment with cardiologist- update

We had appointment today with cardiologist which we booked privately. In my previous post I said I’d update on how it went. The cardiologist has decided that he will put a heart rate monitor on mum for a week, and see what’s going on. I explained the current anxiety symptoms were so frequent now, like most days. He suggested that we up the dose of furosemide from 20mg to 40mg. He wants mum to try this for 2 weeks to see if it makes a difference as he said it could be fluid causing the fast heart beat. He said mum’s pulse seems fine and I showed him a list of some recent blood pressure readings. Some were a little high, and some were okay. I mentioned about whether he thought the bisoprolol may need increasing, he said we will discuss about that after the heart monitor readings. Hopefully we will know in a couple of weeks whether treatment will need changing or adjusting. Fingers crossed that we get to the root of the problem, and hopefully mums anxiety symptoms will be eased.

Very wise decision for the heart rate monitor. Hope the visit relieved some of your mum’s anxiety.

Thank you, mum seemed somewhat relieved, but then last night she had another episode so had to take the promethazine again. But hopefully with the monitor, we will get to the route of the problem.

Given the difficulty of truly knowing what is what and what is best to treat these things, it seems your mum is being looked after as well as it can be. Anxiety is an ever-present issue for many of us with this, but it seems that it needn't be, in the sense that life goes on whatever the arrhythmias make us feel, otherwise.

Keep us all posted and keep up the good work of being such a good carer for you beloved mother. I suspect, as you must do, that she will settle down and be fine as time goes on. Let's hope so.

Thank you so much, hope things definitely settle for mum. It’s difficult to see her going through this, hopefully once they check results of the heart monitor, we will get more of an understanding of what’s going on. Thank you for your support.
