hi I’m thinking of buying a kardia mobile device I have an Apple Watch SE but it doesn’t have an ecg feature so was looking at a kardiamobile is it worth paying the extra cost of the 6 lead version or would it be just as good to get the 1 lead also would I need to subscribe to the app or is it still good to use the app for free ?

Hi,

I don't own any Apple products. Nor do I use watches to any great degree except to monitor HR and sleep and the one I do use is a Garmin product. My healthcare monitoring devices amount to an Omron BP monitor and my 6L Kardia. It's all I need, I would add that the BP monitor is a NICE approved device which will show AF.

I have the free Kardia App on my phone. I take a reading on the 6L Kardia and send it to the App on the phone and then email it to my preferred email address whereupon I file it for future reference as I do with any emails I wish to keep. No cost.

No it is not worth the extra 6L is real sensitive or at least mind is to work right

Just bought my wife a 6 lead Kardia for Christmas, not that she will use it much. She had some palpitations mid summer and subsequent Holter showed nothing . She only wanted it so she could out do me. Lol 😁 (she loves tech and mobile phones more than I love engines) My original phone back Alivecor hasn't seen the light of day for many a year.

In case you break down Bob and actually use it, the 6L has a "Guest" feature, so it will keep both of your EKGs separate. Very useful especially when doing a search. I'm going to assume your battery is long since gone on your Mobile :)

I have all four kardia models, including the discontinued Kardia band. so I guess you can say I'm a big fan :)

If I had to pick only one, it would be the 6L. It's essentially the same size as the mobile, but has greater diagnostic value for some arrhythmias, since it can generate either a single lead ekg, or a six lead. The connectivity is also better and it just feels a little bit sturdier, something to consider if you're going to be throwing it into your pocket or purse.

I also recommend the premium service at least for the first year. Most important and a deal breaker for me, the automatic algorithm is more sophisticated and will diagnose more arrhythmias.

Secondly real live Cardiologist are available to quickly look at your EKG via email or tele-visit. The warranty is also better.

Lastly, everything is saved in the cloud forever. So if you lose or switch your phone, the ekg's are still there. Yes you can keep emailing the EKGs to yourself but the cloud is a lot more convenient and the saved ekg library has a sophisticated search function.

After a year with the premium service, you will see how important each of these features are and whether you want to continue with the service. I think I've had them for about seven years and so far I've still stayed with premium.

I live in the US so the paid premium service may be different than in the UK.

Hi, I have Apple products like an iPhone and iPad but no experience of the watch. I do have a Kardiamobile 6l, which was recommended to me as an option by my cardiologist in 2019.

I have found the determination of Kardiamobile (used in conjunction with my iPad) to be accurate where my Afib is concerned. I use the free app and the standard service. It is FDA cleared and has at least, one NICE recommendation (2022).

That said, my episodes have been very distinct too - high, irregular HR with RVR causing the familiar chest flutterings and trembling; no other symptoms. I really don’t need a Kardia reading to know I am having an episode.

I haven’t had an episode for a number of years now. However, I still use the Kardiamobile occasionally as control, just to check, especially if I feel any different. Experience has led me to be confident in the device.

I've had the 1-lead for about 5 years and it's been well worth the expense. I'm no expert, but IMO if you have AF with no other heart problems, the 1-lead will tell you all you need to know.

I have the Apple Watch with ecg and i phone which connect easily. I haven't tried to connect the watch to my i pad but I assume it can be done. I have a Kardia and rely on that more than the watch for monitoring if needed.

Apple Watch only pairs with iPhone. You can then sync health from iPhone to iPad but not directly from the watch to iPad. It may change in the future.

It is if you have any other arrhythmias, for sure, but you might then soon feel urged to pay £10.00 a month for their extra diagnoses. I changed to the Wellue AI ECG because of this ongoing cost as, without it, my Kardia readings often came back, frustratingly, as "Unclassified". This is likely as I also have a "Wide QRS" caused by something called left-bundle branch block. A few others here seem to have done the same.

Yes most definitely, I felt the same before I purchased but it is the best investment I have made .you do not need to subscribe to their monitoring

You don't have to subscribe but can just take readings on the Kardia which can then be e mailed to your cardio nurse or anyone. This came in very handy for me during lockdowns. I have a 6 lead as I presume it gives more information for the EP to work from when the readings are sent. To be honest now I don't use it a lot unless I am asked to send it to the surgery or hospital or I feel unwell. My EP suggested I use it to monitor my condition and really I should use it more often I suppose. I would maybe discuss this with your EP to see if ti would be worth using in your case.

I have a 6L but have to say rarely use 6-lead just the standard mode - have to say this was the best money I ever spent - led to speeding up my diagnosis and getting on a list for an ablation way quicker and only a few days ago sent the Arrhythmia team a few readings via email post my ablation

I will be forever grateful to Kardia.... when Drs were telling me I was just having "palpitations" or menopausal palpitations. Kardia taught me the difference between PACS, PVCs, Afib, Aflutter, Atachycardia. It was very accurate (in my case) and the first doctor (Europe) who saw it was an EP and he was curious, though the generalist called it a gadget. That was 2013. Look where they are now!

Thank you Dr Albert. Eternally grateful.

hi there I was diagnosed with af in nov and bought the basic Kardia which cost about £99 on amazon, I carry the little gadget in my purse and it’s linked to my phone, the app is free and records a 30sec ecg which tells you if you are in NSR or AF. It works for me and I didn’t want to pay or subscribe to upgrade to the 6 lead

I have the credit card size Kardia and it works perfectly. Carry it in my wallet. Gives medical grade ECG that you can print or email to your doctor. Get readout on mobile phone or tablet.

I have the 6 lead one but only use it rarely but as the Amazon offer brought it with £10 of the single lead I thought why not!

I also have Apple Watch with ECG but find the Kardia more accurate and easier to read plus my GP asks to see copies stored on my phone at check up time .

You do not need to subscribe as the benefits for many don’t cover the cost. I often send a reading to myself for a printout if needed and in and in any case it’s all stored on your Kardia app allowing you to look at them anytime .

The kardia ECG feature is not something a non expert can analyze with any accuracy.I have three 3 leads version and will not pay for analysis as 3 leads are not useful in full analysis.

Instead, I check it weekly for significant variations (and let my cardiologist know).

I see him yearly and have an ECG and the 2 day harness.
