MRA of neck

I have afib episodes. Cardiologist wants me to have an MRA (which is MRI of arteries) to check my carotid artery blockage. I found out that if you have old dental work as I do, it could cause a serious issue even dislodging the teeth :( Some of my dental work (crowns)are 50yrs old and apparently contain nickel which could cause the problem. Cardiologist acts like he never heard of this but I did alot of research and found credible sources.

What is wrong with echo test (dopler) of carotid?

Yes I had this but if you can use an experienced operator as sometimes interpretation can be difficult, may require a second opinion.

A friend of mine's wife spent 30 years at Bristol Royal Infirmary doing just that.

that is what I originally had, cardiologist said MRA shows more details. Could have CT scan but I prefer not to have to take the stuff they give you. Maybe I should just insist on having another dopler ultrasound?

I think had a CT scan for my carotid, as I was told the MRI wouldn't work with my pacemaker

did you have to take some sort of fluids? I would prefer not to as I think it contains iodine
