Keep ringing the GP surgery and/or ring 111?

Does your partner take BP meds?

Are they ill in any way as this will raise BP but agree you should keep trying to get medical attention.

Is he under any stress or ill at the moment? Keeping check on what his BP is doing, can sometimes cause anxiety which in itself will raise it. Tell him to take a few deep breaths, breathing in deeply and then letting the breath out as quickly as possible with a huff. Do this about 6 times then take his BP again.

I assume you've been taking blood pressure with a device at home. I had a similar experience with an electronic BP machine on Monday this week. I had the alert to make an appointment for the Covid spring booster, which I arranged for Monday. The timing was a bit tight as I had my penultimate Pre-diabetes monthly session at a village 2 bus rides away from my home. It was from 10am to 11.30am, then I caught a bus, which was timetabled to arrive near to the pharmacy I was going to, 10 minutes before my appointment. As it happened the bus was on time, and I walked uphill to the pharmacy. I walk with a stick for balance as I also have right foot drop and wear an orthotic under that foot and attached to my leg to help me to walk. I arrived at the pharmacy about six minutes early, thinking I'd be able to sit down prior to my appointment. I wasn't. I had to go to the jabbing area straight away. I was asked if I took any blood pressure medication. I answered that I did, but not for blood pressure, but for prostate. Next I was asked if I took any blood thinners to which I replied "no. I do take an anticoagulant which does not thin the blood", and told the person she shouldn't use such an inaccurate term.

Then out came the electronic BP machine. First reading was very high, second taken immediately after the first less high, but still too high, third taken immediately the second less high but still too high. I had told the assistant that I had permanent AF and had just walked uphill. She gave me the jab. I sat down for a few minutes, before walking 200 yards to a bus stop for my journey home.

On Wednesday I had a telephone call from my local medical centre asking if I could go there to have my blood pressure taken. The pharmacy had sent a message to the GP about my high blood pressure.. I made an appointment for later that day. I arrived close to the medical centre 20 minutes before my appointment and sat on a low wall for 10 minutes. Then I walked around the corner to the medical centre.. I booked in and sat for another 10 minutes prior to having my blood pressure taken, using a hand 'bulb' to expand the band around my arm. My blood pressure by that method was 108/58. It had been 170/98 at the pharmacy on Monday using an electronic machine.

First don't worry. Second get the blood pressure tested the manual way, which is more accurate.

I hope you've been able to get a doctor to see him and get his BP under control. It must be very worrying for you both. let us know how things are going? x

Hi

GP may be making sure that over a period of taking that the BP is stable on higher amount.

I would get a BP monitor and measure it yourself.

Clinical high BP is normal.

I have a Microlife but my upper arm is not fat.

Lie down, relax 20 mins no talking or moving.

Place cuff 2" above joint, put tube line down and thread tube through 2 fingers. Place hand higher than heart. Place actual reading monitor also higher than heart.

With 5 minutes between readings take 3. Divide total readings by 3.

See how that goes.

With a Systolic high I had a stroke but since been told I have a soft systolic heart murmur so that might be why I showed high. However With thyroid cancer removed, on Bisoprolol BP is now 123/80. BB is better to bring down BP as it blocks adrenalin.

But H/R important especially when AF is found.

Sporting a H/R over 200 the BB was not a significant drop until I was introduced to CCB a Calcium Channel Blocker which relaxes the arteries, valves etc. On 1/2 dose my H/R dropped down to 51 within 2 hours.

So I reckon check the BP at home.
