Has anyone had issues with Bisoprolol affecting their GFR number at all ?

Lowering of GFR (kidney function) number
No change for me. I take 2.5mg daily. eGFR has been consistently >90 (as per the way the hospital lab reports it).
Do you have a history of impaired kidney function or is there anything else in your history that makes you more susceptible? It may well be more of a concern for people at greater risk of kidney problems as opposed to people with no history or other risk factors. Kidney function is related to right ventricular function so that’s something to bear in mind too.
Changes have only started since I began taking Bisoprolol.
I know Beta blockers can have an affect on eGFR and renal blood flow so was just asking in general
Will be interested to see more replies on this one as it has me curious. Blood tests last year highlighted a significant drop in eGFR which resulted in a number of tests and further scares. I mentioned this to my Heart Consultant who, took the trouble to look back over my eGFR readings for the last 11 years and pointed out that it fluctuates a lot and is actually higher now than it was in 2014. It had dropped to 75 but had been lower. Did they ask you to drink 2.5 litres of water the day before a second blood test, as dehyration will lower the reading. To my knowledge, it starts to become a problem below a reading of 60. In answer to your question, yes, I have taken Bisoprolol and pretty much every other Beta Blocker for months at a time. I am about to try Bisoprolol 1.25 again for Ectopic Beat issue. Many thanks for your post, I will speak to my GP about this potential factor.
My last 2 blood tests have shown eGFR at 58. This was after starting Bisoprolol. Prior to this all numbers were normal.
I have read that a lot of Beta Blockers can affect the eGFR number and Renal Blood Flow.
Just interested if anyone else had come across this
My local NHS hospital lab gives >60 as normal. I’d discuss your result with the cardiologist as the heart and particularly the right ventricle function influences kidney function. It could be the BB but there could be another explanation. With blood tests, we the laypeople tend to look at each result in isolation, but there’s sometimes a bigger picture and we can’t know what we don’t know. I’d ask at your next cardiology appointment, assuming you have one coming up at some point.
Been on 10mg/day for 35 years and never have a problem with my eGFR unless I don't hydrate sufficiently
Hi I was moved pretty early on to Carvedilol from Bisoprolol as it's better for the liver.
