Levothyroxine gave me back my energy and I take it (with plenty of water) in the middle of the night, when I get up to go to the toilet. In the daytime I also take pills for my permanent AF.

Thanks my husband made that suggestion.Only got the diagnosis over phone trom GP yesterday, who said sorry forgot to tell you this when i phoned last week to say your bloods showed you are anemic and need iron tablets,i know nothing about underactive thyroid, he described it as like the accelerator of a car.,no more info,i may need to ask you for more help and reassurance over coming weeks,so thank you. What a state our GP practices have turned into🤔

Please do. There is Thyroid forum on Health Unlocked and the ladies there know everything, but they can be a little fierce at times.

Certainly are! Very helpful, informative and knowledgeable but very "grown up" - no " Dr, dr" jokes over there 🙂 x

I too take mine in middle of night

I take mine at breakfast with my lansoprazole , furosemide and disopyramide. I know this is not advised but its kept my thyroid levels in order for about 25 years ! Jean's idea sounds a good one but not for me as I never get up in the night ! I tried taking it as soon as I woke up but kept forgetting. I also take Ferrous fumarate for low ferritin but take this at night.

Re Levothyroxine, I asked my GP for thyroid testing as I was finding it doubly difficult to lose/keep off weight. Once I had settled into the tablet regime I managed to lose 2 stone fairly easily !

Good that worked for you,but i don't need to loose any weight ,ok around 9 stone

I have had AF for many years but am interested in your low HB. This happened to me this year & I needed iron to correct it Every dr said I must be bleeding somewhere but nothing ever found My HB was 75 which is low now back to normal so iron stopped Now have to be monitored to see if HB drops again Would like to know the cause obviously

I used to take my thyroxine when I remembered, started about 30 years ago, then the nurses at arrythmia clinic thought it might have contributed to af. So now I take levothyroxine and lanazaprole when I wake up and take dogs out for an hour then have coffee and toast. If like this morning my hubby takes dogs I have a lay in ☺️

I have permanent AF and underactive thyroid. My GP advised me to take levothyroxine 2 hours before any other meds or food.

I take thyroid meds. They are better absorbed on an empty stomach, 30 minutes minimum supposedly. Never heard of the tea coffee angle before tbh. I will say this, my thyroid tests have all been normal on meds. I can 100% guarantee you that I do not remember every morning to take them as soon as I get up before I start my day. Just be aware that high thyroid is linked to afib and keep an eye on your levels.

I hope your GP is starting you on a low dose because levothyroxine increases the metabolic rate and in some cases can cause palpitations etc. It does depend on how long you've been hypothyroidic though. So my advice is proceed with caution. And let your GP know if you feel your HR gets faster. As to timing of pills - quite a few people on thr Thyroid UK forum take their levothyroxine at night- just before bed. I do that so there's no interaction with other meds. Seems to work well for me.

Hope that helps.

Hi

After thyroidectomy due to cancer I take and actually live on Thyroxine (SYNTHROID)

best synthetic hormone drug for level TSH, T3, T4 total.

3 years now.

I used to take it 5am and set alarm - have a sip of water but now when I awake 6am, under tongue, piece of banana 1/2 hr b/f 7.30am take first AF drug CCB Calcium Channel Blocker Diltiazem, then anti-coagulant PRADAXA x twice a day so first at 9-10am.

Then I have 2.5 mg Bisoprolol PM with Pradaza later.

That is my daily schedule.

I changed to Synthroid because more reliable. Keep TSH 1.0-2.0, T3 is 4.0, T4 total 22.0 top. But T4 total I can't control because keeping at a level is the important regime.

Cheers JOY. 74. (NZ)

Has you have a scan of your thyroid? I had carotid arteries checked and the scanner lass said that I had a shadow on my thyroid.

STROKE with AF in 2019 and found to have thyroid cancer due to the scan.

So Thyroid cancer caused my AF. & Stroke.

Rapid Persistent H/R is now 62-88 DAY and always 47 at night.
