Diagnosed with bladder tumour Thursday, had me in pre op assessment on Monday. Anyone know what the usual waiting time for this type of op is please as I cant get an answer from the clinic. I appreciate there are so many variables but one week from doctors referral to diagnosis it may be one that's a higher priority than my gall stones.

Generally pre op used to mean a week or so but these days who knows?

My reply same as Bob. Normally would indicate op is soon after.

My relative with the same diagnosis had to wait only 4 days from pre-op to removal - and that was during lockdown. It sounds as if your consultant is on the ball and isn't going to hang about, which is good news. There is a wonderful private group on Facebook - Fight Bladder Cancer Support - which is a source of support and advice from patients and professionals.

Please feel free to PM me if you wish - I'll be offline tonight but back in the morning. Like in all things, information is power. Very best wishes.

Thank you. Arrived home this evening to find a letter in the post with an op date 5th May so just over 2 weeks so pretty pleased with that. Now when is the next doctors strike?

Will see if I can join that web site.

Thanks all

Great site

I had over a year's intensive treatment at the Royal Marsden during the height of COVID, was seen within days, never had an appointment cancelled and only waited over an hour once for a blood test as three phlebotomists had COVID. Last week in outpatients the department was very busy and running over, an apology was made over the tannoy and a tea and coffee trolley with biscuits appeared where we could help ourselves as we waited. I hope your experience is similar, and my best wishes for a positive outcome.

Hope for the best plan for the worst is what I go by. Dont think I will be getting tes and biscuits. My ex wife was a radio therapist and the Marsden always set the gold standards. This site is great to hear from others who have had similar experiences and can answer questions that are not always clinical but important to you the patient. Best wishes and good health.

I had bladder cancer last year, it was found when I was taken in last April as an emergency with infected appendix (some will remember my post as had to wait four days because of anticoagulant). Had a CT scan and tumour in bladder was found. I was due op at the beginning of May but was caancelled 6 days before because my consultant wanted a echo done as I had not had one for 3 years, they cound not fit the echo in before the op. Op was done at the beginning of June, went in at 12.30 and had op a few fours later, no problems, stayed overnight and home the next day.

Saw mu consultant 10 days later who confirmed it was cancer, all removed and had not spread outside the bladder. The following week I had 6 weeks of chemo, 1 visit a week at hospital. This consists of putting a liquid into the bladder via a catheter, you have to keep this in for at least 1 hour. To follow up I would have a cystoscopy after 3 months, which happened in December and another three months one which was done this March, next one is six months time. All have been clear. I must say urology have been really good taking care of me and no delays except for the echo problem.

There may be other treatments after will be interesting to know how you get on. I hope all goes well, the catharter part will be more uncomfortable for you as a male, us ladies are lucky in that respect. My husband has had a permanent catheter for 4 years so have a fair bit of knowledge on them. The chemo does have some side effects (it is quite a lethal looking liquid that is put into the bladder lol) tiredness and have to be careful, avoid getting any infections. I had to delay my covid booster by 4 weeks because of this treatment.

Good luck and take care.

I thought the longest a pre-op could be from operation was less than 6 weeks - otherwise you have to have another pre-op appointment. Hope it's much sooner than that for you and it all goes well.

Hi

A question.

Do you dye your hair?

I was told back in 80s when the next door patient sais Bladder problems are caused by Dye especially. And to always have a large glass of water before dying your hair and another after.

I had a cyst removed. Tauranga hospital. 70s.

Cant remember waiting time.
