I started taking alendronate (70mg once a week) about 10 weeks ago for osteoporosis. I was very dubious about it but did lots of research and ultimately decided to give it a go having read accounts from people who are housebound/ in constant pain due to their osteoporosis. Initially I seemed to be tolerating it well. Then I started to feel increasingly dizzy and unsteady.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Did you persevere and it improved or did you stop and the symptoms disappeared?
I know some will say consult your GP and I will, but I'm considering stopping it temporarily to see whether the dizziness subsides...

I couldn’t tolerate any of the oral bisophonates for my osteoporosis but due to stomach issues and feeling generally unwell. Having GERD it exacerbated it. I did stop it myself each time but with doctors blessing as it was trial and error. I have been on yearly infusions for 4 years since and perfectly fine. This may not be the route for you with dizziness but might be worth a chat with your doctor. I’m assuming you are taking it first thing on an empty stomach and not bending or lying down for 30-60 minutes after taking it. That is mainly to stop gastric problems but may have other reasons as well? x
I took risodaonate sodium for this with no noticeable effects. This lasted 5 years until I had a check-up and was told it was better. Now I take vitamins D and calcium.
Hi my mother took alendronic acid for 14 years, but apparently they should only be taken for 2-3 years as they stop working after that, from what i remember looking into biphosphonates at the time they only work on 1 component of bone of which there are 2 ,again if i remember right, 14 years later a gp couldnt believe my mother was still on them and took her off them straight away[who knows what harm that could have done], i learnt a bit about them because after my mother told me one night that she felt as if there was a packet of biscuits crumbling inside her, sorry if this alarms you, but my hope is to make you aware and do your own research, as i dont have much time at the minute to go further into it.[ that feeling my mother had was her bones crumbling] that was with long term use though.
