Hi, I've just noticed this post and I have just received an letter from my surgery saying that they want to swap my medication from apixiban to edoxaban, dare say there is a post about this but is the survey about this?

wilsond in reply toSoundmike

Yes I have filled it in. I have forewarned my surgery not to bother asking me to swop,as its based on cost not medical need and that I would take it further if need be.

It is a UK concern ,at the moment where some patients are being swopped from Apixaban to Edoxaban, sometimrs only finding out when collecting prescription!Nhs is giving financial bonuses for each health trust who sign up.

Edoxaban is cheaper but not suitable for all.

There are general questions asking you what you know about A/C,how long you have been on etc.

I have filled it in. I was also asked numerous times to swap to another over the last year or so, my reply was No and please put that on my notes, I have had no problems with Apixaban in the last 6 years

It seems newcomers and other Forum members are unaware of the switching issue, so I'll give a link to an article giving the background ...

No antidote in case of severe bleeding gastric problems, not suitable for obese patients or those prone to kidney issues.Cost of Apixaban will also soon come down as license is now sold to provide generic versions.

The article above is very good.
