I am at the end of a two week holiday in Madeira and due to fly home tomorrow. Last night out of the blue I started an episode of AF and took 50mg flecainide and 2.5 mg bisoprolol but 6 hours later I am still in AF. Incidentally this is my first episode since 2013. I don’t know what to do as I am worried about flying back to UK tomorrow on a 4 hour flight. I am one of those sufferers who feels really ill and needing the loo a lot when in AF. Advice appreciated. Thanks.

AF episode on holiday. Advice needed please
We cant advise on drugs but I can say that 50mg of flecainide is a very small dose. the max daily amount is 300mg and many people who use it as pill in pocket take 200mg. REgardlessof the loo situation it is vital to stay well hydrated. As it says on my mug "stay calm and carry on".
Thanks Bob, I took a further 50mg of flecainide and am now in NSR if a little spaced out. I remember now that my consultant Prof Richard Schilling prescribed PIP for my PAF as 100mg and 2.5mg of bisoprolol, he suggested that I take the bisoprolol half an hour before the flecainide. Mind you this was 10 years ago!
I see from your profile that 8 years ago you were prescribed Flecainide as a Pill in the Pocket but I’m guessing that it’s not been something you have taken for some time. As has been said, we cannot advise on medication but 50 mg will achieve little. Try to get some advice locally about whether or not it’s safe to take it as a PiP but under no circumstances exceed 300mg in any 24 hour period. Good luck and safe trip home……..
Thanks FlapJack, see my reply to BobD. Fingers crossed that I get home without another episode. This one shook me as it is the first episode of AF since 2013. Don
From my experience the urgent need to pee should subside after several hours in AF when the excess fluid from your body has been eliminated.
Hi lofty Not the person to ask really, I have just started on Flecainide so hasn`t really worked for me yet. I need advice on it and other people`s experiences with it
