more than one ablation

Have any of you had more than one ablation? How many, and how long from the 1st one to the last one?

Had three for AF 2005, 2006 and 2008. No AF since .One for atrial tachycardia 2019.

2 - 1st - Nove 2013 made things a lot worse, 2nd March 2014 - 3 blissful years without AF.

That was a short gap! I’m waiting to see what’s next, but I imagine a second ablation, if offered, will involve another wait!

Though I guess mine isn’t a lot worse - just not any better.

I was hospitalised for 3 days in the Acute Cardiac Unit about 4 weeks following. I came home feeling very well and did far too much, far too soon so didn’t help myself.

1st in Jan 2018 failed complicated by mild-moderate pulmonary vein stenosis; 2nd in Dec 2018 may have helped a little, but have been on anti-arrhythmic, calcium-channel blocker, and beta-blocker since; 3rd is 10 days from now! The first two were focused on the left atrium (ipsolateral PVI, then box procedure). This one is to focus on the right atrium, but he plans to go check the left as well.

Had my first one in 2020 but still on flecaniade did good with no afib . Until this year I have had 3 long episodes I'm on flecaniade 100 twice a day. Might get another ablation in 3 months. Seems that when my med is lowered I go into afib again.

Had three in 2022. 1st one classed as a failed attempt so second was within 2 months then about 6 month gap between 2nd and 3rd. Obviously the 2nd didn't keep me in NSR hence fairly quick 3rd attempt as there were a couple of runs of NSR so we all agreed worth another shot. Sadly went back into AF within 2 days of last one also (and stayed there) but I've had AF for 18 years so was bit of a long shot to start. Now classed as permanent so won't be offered any more.

So far 2 ablations. First was in late 2017 following the onset of PAF. That was successful for the AFIB but I then had atrial tachycardia with 2 electocadioversions over the following 18 months. Flecainide during that period helped but a 2nd ablation in April 2019 has settled everything down. Occasional super ventricular ectopic events now, again controlled with a low dose of Flecainide.

The one thing I have learned about AFIB is that no two cases are the same and with the help of a good EP you will find a solution. MY EP is at Royal Papworth and I have had excellent support from him.

how long were you in af after you had ablation

The reason I am asking is I have been in af for 4 years and waiting for ablation but have to go on amiodrrone before they do ablation

I have had two cardioversion to revert to sn but not worked

reply to Fab , I had a 5 hour ablation at 6pm was sent out at 10 am next day to an empty house . Ablation failed as did second one.

Cryo in March 2018, rf in Jan 2019, NSR and no meds since. Still wonder about if/when it may return but its no longer all consuming. I don't smoke, rarely drink - and only ever 2 at most, probably drink too much coffee though.

During 2016-17 in the heady days before Covid and the ever increasing NHS underfunding I had 3 ablations in 11 months: the first for SVT, second and third for Afib.

The only blip I’ve had since was during a nasty covid attack last year.

I have had two. Cryo in November 2021 and a RF in July 2022.

Unfortunately they did not stop my AF but they have changed it.

My initial AF was quite intermittent and often came in at night. The sensation in my chest was quite violent. Since the ablations the AF is more frequent but often I am only aware of it due to the symptoms of dizziness, muscle aches and breathlessness - none of which I had before. I rarely get the flip flopping in my chest. (It is difficult to know whether any of the new symptoms I have are drug related.)

In the past 2 years I've had 3 ablations. First 2 didn't seem to work very well as I was still having afib episodes. Last one, done November 2022, seems to have done the trick. No afib for almost 3 months now. I'm very grateful for that.

2014/2016/2018… I was told by Professor Schilling at Barts at my first consultation that I might need 3 ablations and I have now been in normal sinus rhythm for more than 4 years. I have remained active throughout and have won veteran cyclo cross leagues and champs. I also now have a 6 year old son that has replaced my competitive streak… he leaves me standing anyway… I blame the years! 😉

I also understand that it can take up to three and more ablations given the trauma to the heart so they like to be conservative in the time spent on the procedure and the tissue scarred. There are also issues in identifying and locating all the rogue electrical impulses that might find a way through after the first or second ablation.

hi, I had my first ablation in April 2017, which failed within a few weeks and my second was in August the same year. Since then I’ve been absolutely fine, fingers crossed it stays that way.

Had 3 pretty quickly Oct 2020 / Oct 2021 / Sept 2022 (last one for afib and pacs). I still have daily pacs (but to a lesser extent) and afib episodes have been reduced but never had a period of more than 6-7 months free from afib episodes. I imagine 4th ablation some time in my near future...
