help in understanding

hello hatten back again regarding this letter from the hospital, i cannot understand what this means but it does not look good.

Normal biventricular size and function, mild LVH. Moderate,severe/ aortic stenosis

Trace of AR PR mild MR TR

The left atrium is dilated

The aorta is is dilated at the level of of the sinus of Valsalva, sinotubular junction

Proximal ascending aorta is dilated

Ecg eart rate 73 bpm

I know that my close family all have aortic problems, but not all dying from it, now am I jumping the gun and worrying for nothing.

My next appointment is next week and would like some clarification if possibly from you lovely people.

Hopefully it sounds worse than it is?

Hope they do something soon as I am also under investigation for urology problems.

Hi Hatten.

The letter say's you have normal functioning of both ventricles and a mild increase in heart muscle size. The left atrium is enlarged (not unusual). Your HR of 73 BPM is spot on.

That's my opinion but remember I'm not a medic.

thank you so much for the information, I admit I was rather scared but hopefully it maybe not so bad. Still waiting for news regarding the aortic stenosis, I was advised it would mean open heart surgery, should know a little more next week.

Thank god for this site keeping us sane.

Yea, don't take it too much to heart (ha ha) I got one of those before an aortic valve replacement and they really put in every abnormality or maybe just features. Ask the doc, he/she will tell you if you need to worry about anything.. I believe I had aortic stenosis too, but its all better since the valve replacement (not that you need one). My paroxysmal afib also started after the surgery, but honestly the afib has inspired me to be more relaxed and aware and change my diet and I feel much better, overall. Fewer random ectopics than before.

It’s good they saw the aortic dilation so they can keep an eye on it. I think there is a max size it has to get to before operating. Best wishes for your appointment, please let us know how you get on ❤️‍🩹

Thank you for your response, I was told that I would need an operation for aortic stenosis, however two close relatives died of ruptured aortas and two brothers have swollen aortas and one is checked and the other had a successful operation to repair his aorta, so I’m not surprised that I appear to have a similar or same complaint.

I just hope that all will be made clear next Monday.

Bad luck, my husband had an abdominal aortic aneurysm, luckily it was found just in time. He was told it might be hereditary. As my granny died of a burst aortic aneurysm I worry a bit about my children.

Yes that’s my problem exactly, my father, sister both died from ruptured aneurysms, two brothers are under review.

Thought that I had escaped the problem, I live in hope!

Why do they send letters like this!! Why not send a lay person's version? Everything sounds terrifying in medical jargon IE my "severe epitaxis" is bad nosebleeds!! You could try phoning the arrhythmia nurses for a translation or perhaps your GP?
