Sick of feeling ill

I am on Edoxaban and Verapamil 120mg only. Since 2021 when first starting beta blockers after having a pacemaker fitted I've had nothing but trouble.

The GP's don't have an answer for me with various differing ' diagnosis '. I've posted before and at this moment in time have pretty much constant chest pain, with the swelling and pain that was underneath my ribs and around going higher into my chest and up.

I want to tell them I don't want to take the verapamil or any other alternative anymore, I will keep on with the Edoxaban, question is...has anyone else managed without beta blockers etc.

I have felt all along these tablets caused these problems and when looking at the side effects recently it does cite some of these problems.

Good morning tabletphobic, sorry to hear that you are experiencing pain and are not feeling well. Have you seen our 'Beta-Blockers' information sheet? It can be found here: heartrhythmalliance.org/afa... Beta blockers should be taken as prescribed and should not suddenly be stopped without advice from your doctor, however, this is a conversation you could have with them in order to make a fully informed decision regarding your treatment. Our Patient Services Team are here if you would like to contact them for any advice or support 01789 867 502 or email info@afa.org.uk

Are you under the care of a consultant( cardiologist or electrophysiologist) I have lost a lot of faith in GPs lately, and in any case they are only General Practitioners. They have to know a bit about everything! If not,a referral could be made as priority.

I would be wanting a higher opinion I think.

Best wished

Not really, the GP has informed the Cardiologist who has changed tablets a few times but without seeing them. I was thinking of telling the GP to ask if I could just come off them.

I still think there is value in being seen,it may not be due to the medication. Xx

I've seen the GP on many occasions and a cardiologist to check that it wasn't angina ( it wasn't ) I have a telephone appointment soon but I am going to ask if its ok not to take them because I've had nothing but this problem since I first took them and the GP's clearly can't solve it, and if it is side effects they are actually making any afib symptoms worse. ( If afib just weird feelings )

Hi Tabletphobic,

I’m sorry to hear about your issues, but please can I just check Verapimil is a calcium channel blocker and not a beta blocker…it probably doesn’t make much difference to you what it is, as it sounds like you aren’t happy with the medication, but there is a difference between the two types of medication and thought I’d better mention it.

Sorry if I have misunderstood.

It is, I have been on beta blockers as well. It's the swelling and pain around my ribs and chest it just won't go away. The GP's can't decide what it is. Just had a phone appointment and the GP is asking if it's possible that I don't have to take them just to see if it is them causing the problem. He said he will also ask if I could use the ' pill in the pocket instead '

Hi Tabletphonic,

Apologies, I missed your reply above, so I see that you were on beta blockers, but now on Verapimil CCB, but as you don’t tolerate either, you’d like to find out if you could take them just as a PIP?

I think you need to talk to a cardiologist, which I know is easier said than done, rather than your GP ( who are generalists) as your cardiologist would be best placed to advise on what’s best for you, in your situation.
