Bradycardia

I have been referred to a cardiologist. Just interested if anyone has had feedback from a Holter.

I read my report and it was no action despite a pulse of 44, at 3am , 50 at 2am, 4am ,48, 5am. 48. The readings over 6 days.

The arrhythmia nurse reassured me bradycardia during sleep no concern.

Has anyone else had this feedback.

Just concerned I may need a pacemaker.

Thanks in advance for any comments before I see my consultant.

Your arrhythmia nurse probably has more understanding than any of us. HR drops significantly during sleep. I would worry if it went into low 30s.

My PM is set default at 60 because a holter showed drops into low fifties but in fact with a base rate of 80-85 so quite long pauses if you follow me.

Hi Sam.

When I'm in NSR it tends to be about 55 - 60 bpm in the day at rest. When I woke up and tested my rate it could drop to 45 bpm. Personally I had no concerns at all and felt fine at those rates. I am not a medic but I would be delighted to have your HR at night when / if I'm in NSR after my CV.

My HR would dip to low 40’s but of more concern were my low O2 sats - caused by sleep apnea. Sequence was low pulse, low O2 sats then AF which would wake me.

Since being treated for SA - life improved but since PM - QOL improved further. My PM is set at 60 and all I can say is I feel much better for it!

Thanks for the replies, very much appreciated.

I have a passive PM which is set to active pacing if my rate falls below 50 bpm during the day and 40 bpm during the night. It’s works about 3% of the time. When it was set to 50 bpm throughout the whole 24 hours it worked about 8% of the time.

The rationale for the nighttime setting is that it’s quite normal to have a rate in the 40s during the night …. but not less.

Thank you, it is reassuring to have the PM to guide the response. Best wishes.

Repeating others, I also have a mid 40's HR in the night no probs. Re cardiologist consult, best to prepare a list of Q's and make sure you get them all in and write the answers down.He/she probably will not like that but explain it will help so much to reduce anxiety.

Will do no appointment yet, he has requested a CT heart scan , I would prefer an MRI heart however it is more expensive. Thanks and good wishes.

I have a naturally very slow pulse 40’s during the day, 30’s at night. I also have afib. Got really worried about the hr. Numerous monitors. No symptoms with the slow pulse. When the results after several tests at different times cardiology said it was normal for me and no action was necessary. I mentioned a pacemaker and they threw their arms up in horror at the suggestion. My daughter who is only 28 has a pulse of 36bpm in the night and again no symptoms and no treatment. She doesn’t Af at the moment anyway. Everyone is different. I think I may be unusual but I am just saying that it can be normal for some of us.

Janey you have no idea how you have calmed me!! I am 40s all day and 30s at night been to the cardiologist 3 times and they said its allll fine. I am fit but no athlete and they said its just how my body works and not to worry unless I become symptomatic. The only symptom besides the low heart rate is palpitations which after 10 days on a monitor were found to be nothing either. Its scary and i probably think about it too much, nice to have someone else in the world that gets it!! :) xoxo- Heather

Much the same here circa 40-45 at night - its not so much the rate that forces a PM its the pauses (as Bob says) and if you are feeling bad feinting etc.

Fairly normal to have a low pulse at night, mine was the same or lower. Doctors didn't seemed concerned, hope that reassurance helps
