I am concerned because altho this year I went 5mths without an afib episode I got one in June and since then had 3 more episodes. Eye dr wants me to get eyelid ptosis repair (eyelid drooping) and needs me to go off Eliquis several days prior and also after surgical procedure (which won't be until early next year). I am so frightened but if I don't get eyelid done it could droop more plus I am 84 so need to get it done. Anyone else had to do this?

having to stop Eliquis prior to surgery
I havent had the eyelid op but am on warfarin and had to stop this several days before recent hip replacement and a few days after. I was bridged with injections of Fragmin during this period. Possibly the same will happen with you so no need to worry unduly. Why not contact the hospital where you are having this done and ask about this.
I’m on Eliquis and have stopped it several times for surgery and procedures, longest was 5 days.
A friend of mine had a drooping eyelid at age 90.It was thought to be ocular myasthenia .It was only diagnosed by a sharp eyed opthalmologist .This does not need surgery so maybe you might want to get a second opinion as to why your eye has a drooping lid and possibly save yourself the ordeal of surgery?
usually that comes with double vision and other symptoms
Yes. It is absolutely normal to be told to stop anticoagulants for anything from 24 hours to 3 days before an operation or procedure. I had to stop 24 hours before having an endoscopy and 3 days before having a total knee replacement.
All the best.
Obbiously deoends on hospital as i havent had to stop warfarin for my endoscopies , just had to have my INR in range
I think quite often with endoscopies it also depends on whether they are thinking about taking samples/biopsies too. they didn't know whether or not they were going to with me - it depended on what they saw so they may have been so was told to stop, as it happened they did take a few samles/biopsises and also cut some polyps out so just as well I was told to stop. Maybe there is also a difference in the procedure with warfarin as opposed to the procedures with apixaban. Never been on warfarin so wouldn't know. Certainly with apixaban it is usual to be asked to stop taking it for a length of time before some procedures and operations. With my Total Knee Replacement I had to stop 3 days before and when they put me back on take half the dosage for a month after the operation.
yes I had to stop my Apixaban when i had my pstosis operation last year, also had to stop it recently for endoscopy.
Hope you get it sorted soon, you will notice a big difference after having the eye op done. You will be monitored all the way through the op.
Good luck

did you just get the one eye done? Dr suggests I get both done as he said good eye has a very slight droop. Trouble is the vision test doesn't show any medical need for the good eye to be done so would not be covered by insurance
Prior to my colonoscopy I was told to stop apixaban the morning of the scope which was later that day.
They found 4 small polyps and the doc ummed and arred about taking them off much to my disappointment he decided not to and I have to go back after stopping it for 3 days although it's out the system in two.
Gotta go through the movi prep crap, literally, again.
He said 6/8 weeks I said in the new year so I'll wait for letter appt and cancel 'til next year need a break from hospitals.
Likely something else will knock me off the perch long beffore 4 No. 3/4 mm polyps turn sinister.
Why didn't they tell me to leave off the apix for longer, up tp 40% people have polyps, now gonna cost NHS more money and I've gotta sig on the crapper discharging nuclear diarrhea again
Forgot to mention ghe moviprep sent my bp up to 190/110 no wonder it's a proper salt shaker.
My bp's normally a touch low
