I take 5mg of Warfarin. I can't remember if I have taken it today. should I risk taking one, or leave it? Is it risky in case I overdose on it? I am worried.

Hiya benmaise,

Leave it .......... AND don't stress over it. Missing it for one dosing time will have absolutely minimal impact on your INR. Just make sure when you are due to take it next, you DO ACTUALLY take it and not forget it again.😇 Over the years I've forgotten to take it often ... look, it happens, no sweat !

Now there is a caveat ......... I'm not a medical professional BUT I am a professional Warfarin scoffer !! 😂 I take mine at night and have done for nearly 13 years. I have also had a range of medical/surgical procedures in which under medical supervision I have had to both reduce and/or stop altogether taking my doses of Warfarin ( I'm on 5 mg one night and 4 mg the next). No sweat. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Rest easy, in normal circumstances it would take probably around 6 days for your INR to drop to a normal level by NOT taking it at all. So missing one dose will have minimal impact. It is important with Warfarin ( and a good many other drugs) TO NEVER EVER attempt to play catch ups.

Matter of interest, what is your theraputic range (2.0 to 3.0 ??), your target INR (2.5 ??) and when is your daily scheduled dosing time of day.

Thanks, John. My range is usually between 2. to 3.0. I usually go every 2 months. I usually make mine up for the week. That way I know what I have taken.. I didn't do that this time and just took them as needed. I will I have taken. be filling my box up this week, then Know precisely what I have taken.

Definitely leave it. I have occasionally forgotten to take my Warfarin and just took the correct dose next day.

leave it and just take your next dose as usual. Missing one dose is nothing to worry about. I remember missing mine and I phoned warfarin clinic and they said missing one dose is nothing to worry about at all.👍

agreewith others leaveitshouldn't be a problem. You can check with your INR team for reassurance.

You may want to do something like have your pill or pills in a daily pill box, that way when you see the pills not there, you know you've taken it.

yes, I have taken warfarin for more years than I want to remember, one missed dose is no problem. Usually my warfarin clinic asks whether I have taken the required dosage, and that gives them an idea of what is going on if my INR suddenly gets "abnormal" (for me!). Missing a dose has never been a problem. Your clinic might just want to see you again sooner than you'd wish...!!! So no 'extra' dose and don't worry.
