Quick question about Apixaban

Hi All,

Had my ablation the 25th May 2022, started Apixaban around 2 months prior, finishing Apixaban 25th Sept so four months post. Is this normal, I heard some peeps on it for 6 months post, just wondering what peoples experiences post ablation have been with Apixaban continuation times.

I had a Zio monitor sent back to EP last week, awaiting results of that now

It all depends on your CHADSVASC score.

If your score was zero and you were only put on anticoagulation for the purpose of the ablation and recovery then this seems about normal. If on the other hand as with most of us your score was two or higher then anticoagulation would normally be for life as there is no current study which proves that even successful ablation removes stroke risk.

Good morning, have been on Apixaban since ablations and pacemaker, and will continue as it helps to provide strokes. Mine will be till I'm no longer here 😀😀

Your doctor is your guide here as he or she will have calculated your future stroke risk and, if this is at all raised, you will continue the anticoagulant indefinitely. Feel safe with your doctor's decision as they follow the strictest national guidelines.

I am on apixaban for life I have had two ablation and a pace and ablate procedure

Don't understand your post. Are you saying you have only taken apixaban temporarily. If so I'm surprised, it would be usual to have take some kind of blood thinner on a permanent basis. People who are in AFand need ablations are usually regarded as a stroke risk hence blood thinners, even after a successful ablation.

My experience after being on warfarin for 9 years and no probs, but put apixaban after heart valve repair and have felt continuously unwell, nausea, my arthritis is much worse and constant tiredness, so I would prefer warfarin with INR monitoring.

I have been on apixaban for a couple years now. It is basically the same as Eulloquis. I have afib not caused by a heart valve problem. I think your doctors have it right.

I had a very successful ablation in March 2020 and am still on apixaban 30 months later! I had a stroke in August 2019 as a result of hitherto undiagnosed paroxysmal AF. I am essentially fully recovered from the stroke. Approx 6 months after ablation I was given the option to come off apixaban but opted to stay on it as I believed that the risk of it causing problems due to bleeding was outweighed by it reducing the risk of another stroke. I am 64 and my father died of a stroke at 59 so this was in my mind. When I started apixaban immediately following my stroke it was suggested that I was likely to be on it for life anyway, so this was what I was expecting.

I suggest that you discuss with your medical team as they will be best placed to advise based on your specific situation.

My EP scored me a zero on CHAD, he asked me a list of questions and said i could stop 25th Sept so 4 months post, just wanted to see what the middle ground was on other peeps who scored zero and had an Ablation

I am.guessing theres not many of us who fall into that category. Hopefully someone will pick up.on this. Be thankful for your zero score I'd say!

Hi been in A/F 14 years not had ablation been on apixaban 3 years no side affects walk about 12 mile ever day feel very well 80 years old His your heart Rhythm normal?? If it is and doctor says come off apixaban just come off remember exacise
