What a cold message Bob. X

I think maybe Bob might have meant that words fail at this time Jean. I just saw your post from last night. It's going to be so odd singing 'May he defend our laws' isn't it? Im 66. Queen Elizabeth was with me my entire life. For a definition of the phrase 'life of service' look now further. Gratitude for Elizabeth R.

I read it that way too. Sometimes, saying less is more in these sad circumstances. 😢.

Some of us are still reeling from the death of our much loved Queen. God rest her soul.

Amen to that, Jean. The Queen has been the only Monach I have ever known and bizarre though it may sound, it feels like the loss of a family member. May she rest in peace.

She was the only monarch the majority of us have ever known & yes, it feels like the loss of someone we personally know. So sad. The end of an era. God bless her ❤️

A grand Lady indeed, loved and respected thoughout the world. RIP.

Deepest sympathy from the USA.

RIP Queen Elizabeth. The protocol announcing next in line is set in stone we know, but never the less remains harsh. A few days grieving first wouldn't hurt, it grates when things are so raw.

Agree totally with you. It appears disrespectful to start calling Charles King. It would be a good idea to leave that until his coronation. Times can change and I think its about time they did.

to be fair- the prime minister called him King Charles the Third

Sad as I may be, which ever way you look at it that is what he is though I have my reservations. She will never be bettered for sure. Never got over Philip's loss.

yes, and such a rough ride politically and personally these last 18 months for her. She also got COVID earlier this year and I suspect it saw her off at her advanced age. Very sad.

I agree Bob. It is sad. We were so lucky in our Queen and thank goodness we have a monarchy and don’t have to elect Presidents. It gives us stability and continuity.

Personally I think Charles will be an excellent King with all the right instincts and priorities. He had the foresight to see the way the natural world is heading and try to draw attention to it long before it became fashionable. He has done huge amounts of good for young people and is trying to bring religions together.

Couldn't agree more BobD. Philips loss meant so much to her - she was so in love with him!!

RIP Elizabeth the great!!

I believe the new king is proclaimed immediately to show the continuity of the monarch. And in the olden days didn't allow any time for a usurper to seize the crown first (I'm looking at you, Henry Tudor)....

It's all part of the pageantry which is what the monarchy is all about, for better or worse depending if you are a royalist or republican....

terrible news, life of decency and dedication. Above seedy politics, fame seeking, our servant Elizabeth the Great. Imagine every day the boxes of State Papers to read and deliberate on,from age 25 to 96,except Christmas day. Last duty Tuesday. God bless you Ma'am x

God Save The King.

She had a huge following here in “the Colonies” especially here in Canada.

She was the embodiment of poise, manners and grace…qualities that are sadly slipping away in this foul mouthed, knee-jerk world.

I remember listening to her goodwill speeches every year, and I stood on guard for Charles and Diane in 1983, as he is the CoC of of my old regiment…I particularly remember the RSM whispering in my ear minutes before the inspection and “meet n greet” …” if he asks you anything, you just reply “yes your highness, or no your highness…anything else you putrid smarta** and I will jail you, are we clear” …apparently I was deemed the most likely to embarrass the regiment with some sort of sarcastic quip or so they thought. So, much to the horror of the reviewing line, and under the terrifying glare of the RSM, the Prince stopped and asked..”so, how is the food Trooper.” …you could hear a pin drop…”fine yer highness, quite good” …his wry smile told all, he winked, and said, “of course” …sighs of relief and chuckles, and my perceived spell in her majesty’s prison was avoided 😄

God save the King 🙂

I feel so sad... I so loved and respected the beautiful Queen Elizabeth. She was the epitome of grace under pressure, dignity, and had a caring spirit for the needs of her people and the world. I am in Kentucky, but I've been an Anglophile since childhood, lived in Canada for many years, and have had two long, wonderful stays in England, Scotland, and Wales... May beloved Elizabeth II rest in peace. My sincere condolences to everyone here who feels her loss. Diane S.

I thought King Charles speech this evening was very good, but I have a nagging feeling Her Late Majesty made him read it to her at some point.
