Phone GP, pharmacist or 111. Failing that go to A&E to make sure you’re ok.

Hello Braveheart101, I would suggest contacting your GP, anti-coagulation clinic or NHS 111 for advice regarding any potential effects and when to take your next dose.

All good advice. I’m not medically trained but as I understand it, anticoagulants do not cause spontaneous bleeds but any trauma like banging your head etc can cause an internal bleed and the higher more concentrated dose could present a problem. Try not to do anything that might cause you to fall or hurt yourself. Wrapping yourself up in cotton wool until you get back on even keel might not be a bad idea!……god luck

I think BobD wrote a report on what to do in this situation. I wonder where it is?

Ah no, it was what to do if you forgot to take your anticoagulant.

I took double by accident in the first lockdown, I phoned 111 , they took all the details , then a nurse came on the line and took the details again but this time height weight and a few more questions, then said with my medical history ( small heart attack in 2015 at 48 a doctor would phone me back with in 20 mins , he took all details again of what I’d done and then said it will be fine but if concerns or changes then ring back . I just took it easy just in case . Good luck . X

I did exactly the same a few weeks ago took my normal dose at about 7pm got into bed about 10:30 pm and for some bizarre reason took another dose. Have to say I didn’t get the best nights sleep worrying about it and reading dr Google. All was ok and the following morning instead of taking my morning dose at about 7:30am I waited until 10:30am then took the evening dose a little later than normal until I was back to my preferred times of 7:30 am and 7:00pm. I just went a little carefully for a few days no drastic gardening with sharp implements or bike rides, as I’m notoriously clumsy.

HiIs it a once or twice a day med?

I take Pradaxa twice day. At night I take 2 out leaving one for morning.

You cant afford to overdose on anti-co.agulant.

It says ring 111. There is an contra way out with Pradaxa.

If something happens which is not normal and I am questioning whether I took it or not, I leave it out.

We all run the risk. Luckily I have a St John's alarm for home and around my place.

Take care, JOY 73. (NZ)

I did this with Edoxaban only probably 2 hours apart.Rang 111 & they went through a couple of checks & got pharmacist to ring me.I probably found the only advantage of being overweight.Had I been very slim may be more of a problem. As Apixiban is twice a day possibly more important to know about taking the next tablet

HiLooking it up.

It comes in 2.5mg and 5mg both doses twice a day.

3 hrs apart.. ring 111. it says.

You are at risk to bleeding internally and externally.

ACT NOW.

I once did this and rang 111 as a result. They do a calculation based on height and body mass. If these are within a certain range you do not need to worry. It might be that a pharmacist could carry out this calculation.

I must be very cavalier - I did it last thing at night, gave my head a wobble when I noticed, and went off to an untroubled sleep. I am 53 kilo and 5ft 6 1/2. I didn't suffer any side effects. Not advising this course of action for one minute, of course. I now put my pills in a pill box so I don't make that mistake again.

I think that I am so used to taking tablets now that I am on autopilot when I do and sometimes I have to check to make sure I have taken them (or not) - I truly can't remember.

Thank you all for such great advice. I did not take another dose yesterday and I will go back to my regular schedule today. I am so glad I found this web site!

I accidentally took 2 in the am before going to work and I will tell you I was lightheaded for a few hours. Kind of alarming but i got through the day. Just glad I was no longer doing 12 hour shifts any longer but had gone to 8 's. A fearsome day to remember but I got through it. I felt pretty stupid for doing it. 🙃 Sarah from San Diego.
