My pacemaker is Mr Marvel and keeps me alive at 70 beats a minute all the time _ no problems - twice yearly checks up and feeling good as the alternative is bad. Yeh - a few tablets a day. Small price to pay for being alive. No heart failure symptoms yet and I am 80 years old so forget about your pacemaker and enjoy life! John

Brilliant - top man!
I like the idea of giving it a name. Anyone have other suggestions for a name?
Great post, John!
My husband got his pacemaker and new heart valve last year and is a New Man! He has more energy than he's had for years. He still has heart failure due to the ventricle having stretched (I believe) but apart from taking the tablets and having the check ups he no longer thinks about it.
I, on the other hand, think about it regularly and thank God and the amazing consultant and medical team for giving my husband the gift of a far better quality of life than he had before. He's just had his 80th birthday and I think he's just wonderful! People genuinely didn't believe it when they were told it was his 80th birthday a couple of weeks ago, and yet a few years ago when the word was mistakenly spread prematurely that he was coming up for 80, he really looked that age.
People moan about the NHS and, yes, the waiting times are often longer than we would like, but they do a wonderful job once you get there!
I wish you and Mr Marvel a long and happy association, John.
xx Moy
Well said John. I don't have a name for mine but my kids call me bionic woman x
I had my pacemaker fitted in March this year and my AV Node ablation in May. I named my pacemaker Peggy the Pacemaker. Even my eleven year old grand daughter now says "can I see Peggy!!" The pace and ablate procedure has been a life saver.
