Can you have panic attacks when stopping bisoprolol?

Anything is possible but generally, provided you have been advised by your medics to stop and you wean yourself off over several weeks, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem……

I suppose it depends if you are very concerned about stopping it. It didn't suit me so I was overjoyed to stop, it wasn't being replaced by anything else but I had no ill effects at all. I had been on it for a month.

I was glad to come off Bisoprolol , although a little anxious as I had been taking it for 2 years. I had some good suggestions from my forum friends and came off it gradually

i.e. cut your dose in half for week or so and then reduce again for any week and then stop.

Hope this helps.

To answer your question, for me .. yes I found that I had panic attacks and a smaller version of them that made it difficult to sleep where I felt my breathing was out of step. Gradual wean off worked so just be gentle as you cut it down

Not exactly full-blown panic attacks but racing heart, the jitters, fight or flight feeling. I was on 1.25mg a day and stopped cold turkey. I realised afterwards I should have come off gradually.

My cardiologist advised me to come off 1.25 cold turkey. How long did your withdrawal last?

At least a couple of months. I hadn't heard of withdrawal symptoms from bisoprolol and was about to start taking them again as I thought I was making a mistake, that my heart really needed them. Then I googled and discovered that my racing heart and flight or flight feeling was very common, and even on a dose of 1.25mg, people very gradually reduced the dose by cutting the tablets into quarters. But not everyone gets the withdrawal symptoms, there a quite a few members on here who just stopped without any ill-effects.

A panic attack can be caused by many things, most often driven by anxiety and over-breathing, but another is AF or any other arrhythmia. If these are transient (very short duration - maybe just seconds), they can catch you out and cause a sudden surge of anxiety which could easily tip over into a full-blown panic attack.

Hi Trixie,BISOPROLOL horrible. Very very tired and foggy. I weaned myself off slowly over a couple weeks. No effects from this. It took other medications before they found what I can live with ! All is well now. Best wishes...
