Hi all, has anyone had hair loss whilst being on Apixaban 5 mg , I was on them before and my hair loss was bad , I’ve been on edoxaban but they tell me it’s not doing much but I don’t understand why and is Apixaban a good one .

Dont understand what you mean "not doing much". It is an anticoagulant not a treatment for AF so just works whatever you might think.
I didn’t understand what the nurse meant either , does apixaban cause hair loss in a lot of people do you know.
Some anticoagulants can, even warfarin having been blamed. I've never had a problem and been in warfarin since 2004 and my hairdresser always tells me how healthy my hair is.
Your lucky then , I’ve got to go back in them but it’s been agreed that I can go back on edoxaban if the apixaban don’t agree with me . Thank you.
I have been on Eliquis since October and just recently noted hair loss . I thought it might not affect me but within the last month I definitely notice loss.Truly sad
Hey ‘E’… I’m on Apixaban (previously on Warfarin). It affects my memory and I can never find where I’ve put my wig‼️‼️, so yes it does cause hair loss. 🤪All joking aside… I’ve been on anticoags for some years now and I don’t think it’s caused me any hairy situations.
If it is impeding your memory you need to discuss that with your doctor. That should not be happening.
Warfarin for 20years now Pradaxa last 4 years and yes my lush head of red hair is now quite thin and white lol so yes I would say blood thinners have a lot to do with it plus of course age. Another thing I blame them for is breaking teeth and loss of teeth, my feeling is that the thin blood does not supply the nourishment it should to hair and teeth but thats just my theory I have no proof.
Technically anticoagulants don't actually thin blood- they just impede clotting.

Yes definitely noticed hair loss after starting Apixiban. Got very concerned about it blaming the loss because of Apixiban. However have been taking Vitamin D for a good few months now and hair much better
Hi, yes I’m scared of going back on Apixaban because of the hair loss and don’t want to go through that again. I didn’t know vitamin D helped with hair loss.
Please don’t be scared. I’m just so very grateful that it can lessen my stroke risk. I have no idea if Vit D helps hair loss but my reading was low so I decided to take Vit D each day and I’ve noticed both my fingernails and hair is much better
In my case all of the anticoagulants, including warfarin cause hair loss. I have had all 4 NOAC’s. After a few months I seem to get a build up and get bad nausea. Currently I am on Dabigatran, which for me, the hair loss is the worst. I rotate between Apixaban and Dabigatran about every 3 months. It’s the only way I can tolerate them.
When I first mentioned hair loss some 8 years ago to my cardiologist, he said it wasn’t the anticoagulants, but it is now listed as possible side effects.
Unfortunately, for some of us hair loss will occur, but I guess it’s better than a stroke.
I’m on edoxoban at the moment and it has not caused hair loss and I want to stay in it.

Lucky me. I went to my hairdresser and she sorted out a new style.
Yes I started in September last year and definite hair thinning so that Ive now got hair extensions for volume!
Well I've learnt something new today. I've been taking apixaban for some years and never heard of it causing hair loss but from what people are saying on here, apparently it can. Luckily this hasnt been an effect for me and my hairdresser quite regularly has to thin my hair out!.

Yes, I've also been on Apixaban for 4 years, definetley noticed hair thinning pretty badly.
However, I've been taking Vitamin D ( for a completely different condition) and I've noticed it seems to be returning to normal again.
I have been taking vitamin D, for about 6 months.
Hope you get the hair back!

No problems at all with Apixaban. I take 5mg twice a day, never noticed any undue hair loss.
I have been on Apixaban for 3 years and hair is definitely a lot thinner. I take vit D but have for years and it has not stopped the hair loss.
Lost all my hair decades before I started Apixaban. I have an over active immune system which produces antibodies that lock onto the hair follicle's and stops them growing. Started doing it in my 40's. I'm 78 now.

Yes, it caused me to lose my hair! I’d asked the same question. Some people are lucky and don’t suffer but there were a lot like me who had lost significant amounts. One poor chap had patches. I looked anticoagulants up and must have that effect , so wasn’t worth me changing. A friend said why don’t I try ‘Alpecin’ hair liquid, one for men, yes there is one for women I think but she’d decided better to buy the one for men as it most likely strength is not toned down.I think it’s worked for me and now it seems my system is used to the drafted Apixaban and I’m ok 🙏🏼🤞🏻
I have experienced more hair loss with Apixaban. Nothing drastic but a definite increase. I also have been taking 2,000 units Vitamin D for years. Maybe that's helping with less hair loss, maybe not. 🤷♀️
