So a week ago yesterday I had my second ablation, the one in October last year (cryo) missed some bits because of the shape of the chamber. This time 3D mapping, RF and GA as opposed to happy juice. Just as well I was under three hours apparently. So all very positive and home late afternoon. Now I hadn’t heard of Anaesthesia Induced Retention but I had by noon on Sunday when I was having the catheter inserted. Then the blood started appearing in the urine which meant walk in centre on Wednesday and luckily saw my Urologist on Thursday. This is remember the quiet week after the procedure 😂 Anyway all apparently normal and not uncommon. Micro-trauma caused by the catheter and obviously being on Rivaroxaban there will be tiny bleeds. Catheter coming out on Tuesday but one has to laugh, AF the “gift” that keeps on giving even on a collateral basis…on the positive side my consultant who did the Ablation was very positive and optimistic that he has cracked it. 🤞
So here’s something I wasn’t quite ex... - Atrial Fibrillati...
So here’s something I wasn’t quite expecting…
That is one thing NOT in our fact sheet on recovery. heartrhythmalliance.org/res.... Had four ablations for different things plus a four hour cancer operation and never had such an issue. Even when I had a catheter for a month I never had bleeding. Lots of bypass but that is an other story.
Sadly Bob, it’s an age thing apparently especially with a moderately enlarged prostate consistent with age. The anaesthesia tiggers an effect on the bladder nerves and also if the anaesthesia causes constipation (such lovely topics for an Easter Bank Holiday morning) it is not uncommon. Both my doctor daughter and her doctor boyfriend who has done his urology training have so confirmed. Anyway finger crossed (unless you’re my urologist) tonight should be the last night when I don’t have to get up and go to the loo!
I no longer have a prostate so different way of life.
So many of my friends, many in their fifties, have been hit by the scourge of Prostate Cancer. I was talking to my urologist about why it seems more of it, and he says that not only does there appear more but worryingly the nasty (is there a nice cancer?) is on a rapid increase. Its believed to be lifestyle related he thinks. Anyway given the somewhat odd feelings in my prostate and the rest of my “sprinkler system” I cannot wait to have the catheter out tomorrow. On the positive side hardly given my heart a thought. I am intrigued to know how this ablation took three hours whereas my previous flutter one was done in 30 minutes under sedation and the unsuccessful AF ablation last October was done in 45 minutes under sedation. Will ask my cardiologist when I see him in a month. Provided all goes back to normal tomorrow I have a nice 5 day ride to Wales on Saturday on the Harley with one of my University pals, ending up in Cheltenham visiting our mutual college buddy who has, guess what, yes his prostate removed.
Flutter ablation is in right atrium, fibrillation in left needing puncture of septum which is more complicated. No doubt your first was cryo balloon ablation and second RF so no mystery there Slim.
Flutter was RF and first fibrillation ablation was cryo, but my chamber is slightly irregular which meant the cryo didn’t touch everything. What is slightly irritating is I was initially booked in for a GA but the anaesthesiologist got called away so we went cryo and happy juice. Anyway thanks so much for your comments and lets hope its not too painful in the morning when I am returned to “normal” 😂
Sorry to hear you’ve had a complication but it’s good to hear your EP is positive.
