Carry on as normal

To be honest I didn’t believe I had asymptotic AF; just picked up on a routine BP check by a GP.! Had to be dragged almost kicking and screaming to the medication (on top of two other pills for BP). Two years or so in I have to say there’s no prob; and remember AF people are the must likely to get the most severe strokes apparently. I exercise regularly and was told by a consultant (who I saw for a second opinion ) to carry absolutely as normal: decent bike rides, hikes, etc. And I do - take care

You've made me laugh Sassy. I think that's a good recommendation for everyone with AF.

Glad I raised a smile. I totally agree xxx

Way to go......that's what I have been doing since 2010 when first diagnosed with paroxysmal AF. I am now 77 and still drive buses 30 or 40 hours a week, as required. All fully approved by DVLA. All thanks to medication and diet changes

Yes we are the lucky ones in a funny way ,that our AF has been picked up and acted upon.Keep going !

Hiya wilsond,

Yep, so right with your phrase.. "picked up and acted upon" !

I remain convinced that the fact that I was diagnosed and treatment started in A &E around 9 hours from onset. Further triggered by my recognising massive falls in BP (136/80 down to 76/50) in those 9 hours was the catalyst in my AF giving me so few problems over the years compared to many poor souls I have read of/ read about in this forum. Bless the A & E team and the Dr. at East Surrey Hospital, Reigate . Not free of it but it now knows its place in my world.

Spot on ! Yes I feel lucky too,as mine was picked up by paramedics called out to home as I was passing out and all over the place with what turned out to be norovirus .Straight in to hospital (isolation sideroom) and CV with flec next day. The rest us history.

Wish more awareness nationally, with a simple screening process.

Best wishes xx

Just keep taking the anticoagulants and you’ll be just fine 👍😉👍

Welcome to the Forum, I am sure all our members will offer you great advice based on their own experiences.

Unfortunately, you are not alone, many individuals are asymptomatic and are unaware that they have an arrhythmia such as a AF, which can often be detected following a routine medical appointment.

The main risk with AF is a stroke. To help lower your risk and protect against experiencing an AF-Related Stroke many are prescribed medications or offered an appropriate medical procedure.

If you would like an advice or support about AF, please visit the AF Association webpage afa.org.uk or alternatively contact our Patient Services Team on info@afa.org.uk

You may find our A F Fact File helpful - you can download direct from our 'Patient Resources' found on the 'For Patients' tab.
