Switched Beta blockers ...felt worse.

Been on Bisoprolol...not good so switched to nebivolol same dose 1.25. Only taken one tablet last Eve and couldn't sleep and today light headed anxious and jittery. When I tried a quick nap this afternoon I kept jerking awake. Back on bisoprolol and hoping I haven't messed up my system. Maybe better the devil you know and maybe I now know BBs are just not working for me. Been on Biso one month. Was I supposed to give the nebivolol a month or two? To settle in . Or should it have been s smooth transition. Any anecdotal s much appreciated. Sorry to be a wimp but feeling really frustrated.

good evening we have talked again from 2.5 bisoprolol I made a change to nebivolol 1/4 for two weeks so the doctor told me and after the third week I took 2.5 nebivolol same give with bisoprolol, now nebivolol helped a lot with sleep, but unfortunately it made me headache xi tinnitus xsi was not so good in the tachycardia, now I'm on atenolol, I realized that the nervousness and anxiety is because maybe we should take these pills I can not explain, I do not know if they affect our brain except our heart

Beta Blockers are also adrenaline blockers - meaning they affect the nervous system - they are used to also help anxiety. That means as soon as you stop them or switch you can become jittery. Many people finding stopping Biso much more of a problem than they thought and take a long time to do so by titrating down by tiny increments very slowly.

How is atenolol for you? We both seem to have problems with beta blockers generally, many many people do, it's not just us.

look atenolol I take it the night before bed helps me relax and sleep, now I was taking bisoprolol in the morning it helped me a little in social stress, but as I said late at night I had moments of stress maybe because they wear out and I needed another I do not know dose, I took atenolol because it enters the brain from what they say in the brain, I tried to stop them even though my doctor reduced it for four days I tried but as soon as I changed the dose on the second day I had a panic attack dishonorable pills should not even I will start them, the next time I go to the doctor I will ask him for carvedilol or diltiazem, do not be afraid to try medicines until you find the one that suits you,

There's a good chance that switching back and forth might have caused your anxiety symptoms. A former EP of mine made me suddenly switch meds which caused a horrible reaction; I should have been weaned off one then slowly put on another. No, you're not a wimp; I hope you're feeling better now.

Thank you. It's hard when you start out and rely on the experts who have no experience of these tablets. My cardio said it would be fine if I changed but should have gone through the necessary stages involved.

I had no problems moving from Bisoprolol to Nebivolol . Because Nebivolol is more cardiospecific it does not damp down anxiety as much .

I agree 100 per cent. People with extreme anxiety should not look for a betablocker to cure the anxiety. There are other therapies .

Sorry to hear you feel frustrated . It worked for me. I switched more than a year ago from biso 5 mg to nebivolol 5 mg. Perhaps your problem related to not being able to sleep has another cause or origin. As a cardio beta blocker nebivolol is not only better than biso because it’s most selective but also has less colateral effects too. No doubt of that. Ask to any cardiologist in the UK. A problem that many people have without knowing it, is hypo or hyper thyroidism that not only has a negative effect on the heart beating but also on the sleep.

Another thing that should not be forgotten. If you feel you are about to have an growing heart beating try Valsalva maneuver. Go to google and get the information.

Thank you. Shame I wasn't put on these to start with , I was looking at drugsdotcom reviews for nebivolol and quite a few negative s yet many like them. Anything lowering BP and HR will probs cause dizzy/sob effects and some have bad headaches nausea etc even with nebivolol. Men /women also have different reaction s. Got ultrasound Thursday, we'll see what crops up. Will update on here.

I have looked at negative reviews of Nebivolol on askapatient. Many of the people seemed to be taking high doses between 5mg and 10mg and to be takung it for high blood pressure.
