I’m a 75 year old in permanent AF. Started way back in 2008 but these days only mild symptoms and being treated by drugs. Since 2008 have had several cardio versions, a single ablation and an aortic valve replaced twice (2008 & 2020). I’m sure that my meds are a fairly standard ‘package’ - Warfarin, Ramipril, Bisoprolol, Amlodopine, Bumetanide and Atorvastatin.

Hi John.

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like your keeping on top of this. Well done and keep it up. Your drugs are pretty standard. I too have afib - it's not ideal I know. I am younger than you but I look at this like this - there are worse conditions to have. Look at at the positive here - you have had it since 2008 and still going strong. That must say something to you - well done buddy.

Hello John, I was going to say welcome to the forum but I see you have been a “dormant” member since 2017. T’is neither here nor there, but I wondered what has prompted you to make contact, perhaps you have experienced some changes in your condition. From what we hear, most say the forum has lots of folk who are happy to offer help so if there is anything particular that you want to discuss, just ask. We always say there is no such thing as a daft question!

Hi John, I have a friend, Philip, who is now getting on for 90 and who has had permanent AF since his early 70s. He continues very well indeed despite that and, because is heart rate is in the normal range, he even doesn't need any medicines (except warfarin). He's got a slightly leaky valve, too, but it hasn't bothered him and he soldiers on! He used to teach soldiers how to speak Russian so he's been giving me all the background to the latest unfolding tragedy in Ukraine. What knowledge and what a pin sharp memory he has!

Hi John, what is your heart rate during rest and exercise during the permanent Afib? And did the symptoms become mild because of the medication or the passage of time?
