I’ve been on Sotalol for 14 months. I take half a tab two times a day. 40 mg x 2. It worked very well. I didn’t want to be on meds for the rest of my life, so I chose ablation. Just had my ablation this week. I will remain on Sotalol for another two months before stopping.

Hope the ablation is a success ! Do you have persistent or paroxysmal AF ?
My cardiologist has offered sotalol. Realizing we are all different, can you briefly summarize how sotalol helped you compared to other medications.
Better at reduction in heart rate, other pros and cons ?
Thanks !
I'm on it right now- 80mg 3 times a day, Seems to work but just want rest all the time - no get up and go. The quicker I get off this stuff the better. It works well for keeping my heart rate down. However I'm totally fed up with it.Tell you what TB we'll beat it. I hope your ablation is a success - it will be I'm sure.
I hope it goes well for you - we will crack this nut one way or another.
All best.
Paul
I was put on Sotalol whilst suffering with PAF prior to ablation. I found that the side effects between PAF episodes just stopped the good times feeling good. They did not prevent the PAF which made them fairly pointless.
My afib was paroxysmal and usually occurred at the beginning of a cycling workout. I started on 80 mg x 2 per day, but I found it extremely challenging to get heart rate above 110 bpm when exercising intensely. I also had trouble sleeping, so my doc cut my dosage in half. That worked perfectly for a year until my ablation this past week. Thought I’d bounce back right away, but the old body is requiring a longer recovery, which I’m listening to. I never used any other medication, so I have nothing to compare. It worked spot on for my condition. I discussed with my doctor that I did not want to be on meds the rest of my life, so that’s why I agreed to ablation.
Hi Had two sessions with sotalol for persistent AF while awaiting cardioversion and since after relapse. Can only echo other comments i.e. drains your energy and side effects at higher doses (aching legs, horrible change in taste, vision impairment, indigestion etc) can be inhibiting and heart rate too high. Previously had dropped down in dose to 80mg BD + 125mg Digoxin which made me feel much better and controlled the heart rate much better.. Having said all that it's MUCH better than Bisoprolol!!
