Hi -- I know that several of you have said you're on this medication because Lasix was not strong enough to reduce the fluid in your legs. My legs were so swollen up they developed water blisters which broke and it is such a mess. There is still so much water being forced out of the open wounds that they never have a chance to dry and heal. So based on the good reviews of this drug many of you gave, My Doctor has given me some Spiro. I would love to know how much you guys take and especially when, and how it's working for you, any side effects, etc? Thanks so much!
SPIRONOLACTASE ??: Hi -- I know that... - Atrial Fibrillati...
SPIRONOLACTASE ??
Do you mean spironolactone? I take 25 g a day. I don't take it for edema, my doctor put me on it as it is a potassium sparing medication. It prevents my potassium level from getting too low. I guess low potassium levels can affect heart rate and cause palpitations. Not quite he thing you want to experience when you already have AF. I have had no side effects and have been taking this dose for just over two years.
I'm taking 25 mg every other day. To be honest I don't notice any side effects at all. And I'm surprised that it's considered a strong drug. Maybe it's the dose?
Is it working to help relieve the swelling in your legs? are you also taking lasix at the same time? I need to know how it;s working for people to help reduce the swelling in the legs. thanks.
It's for edema due to heart failure I suffered due to a long spate of untreated AF. I was taking 25 mg every day. But after I was cardioverted to NSR within two months, I had a normal range ejection fraction, but my BP was too low so the doc reduced my does. Though the doc still has me on the drug- mostly because I'm doing well and I've had no noticeable side effects from it.
