Hiya,

My experience over almost 12 years with paroxysmal AF is that your BP readings will vary at different times, every day, all day and night too (if you are awake then). If you got two readings or more the same it would be sheer happenstance.

That said, if you were a fit person the same comments would apply.

The key to your question is precisely what you mean by vastly different. How different ? It would be helpful if you could give some clues - say morning and evening.

Blood pressure goes up and down all day long depending on what we're doing and how much exertion it takes. Any stress can also make it go sky high too - I'm good at raising mine that way.

Hi Nefat.

As Careuny says it depends what you mean by vastly different. If you give some examples would make it easier. For a reference mine can vary anywhere from 106/73 up to 122/86. I’m pretty sure they can vary even more than this though whether you have af or not 👍

Depends on the range but mostly yes and it has to vary to cope with the body’s requirements.

The advice to take a reading is to have been sitting for 10 minutes prior to taking you BP. To take 3 readings in close succession and take the average of the 3 as a reasonably true representative measurement. If in AF it’s almost impossible to get a good reading but average of 3 is the one you would record.

Should also be taken at the same time of day over a week if you are wanting a comparison, not taking at odd times during the days, especially with HF.

Thanks for your comments they are most helpful. I appreciate this advice and that of others.

I think the best thing you can do is talk to your doctor if you're really worried, but as others have said here, your bp varies all the time. Worrying can put it up, so try to stay relaxed and calm - easier said than done as I know! Hope you will feel better soon. Best wishes.

Certainly not a heart failure symptom. Just means your heart and brain are working OK and responding to your bodies demands. All the best.
